I've no idea what they were thinking they could get away with :o

A real shame but no serious damage done and reparations have been made so bring them home (some already are) and try to move on.

Cashing in: The countries offering rewards for medals

Quote:

Having a gold medal placed around their neck while their national anthem is played is what we are told every athlete at the Olympic Games aspires to.
But with countries racing to be first in the medal table, some nations have decided that winning for winning's sake may just not be enough to induce athletes to give their all.
Some are offering cash bonuses to medal winners while others are offering incentives ranging from apartments to cars.
But who is getting how much varies wildly with Singapore promising a whopping $745,264 for a gold medal while Nigerian gold medallists will only get $2,000.

Quote:

[Singapore: $745,264 one-off payment
Moldova: $132,000 one-off payment
Romania: $79,000 + monthly income for life
Malaysia: Cash bonus + $1,200 monthly payment for life
France: $55,000 one-off payment
Indonesia: $18,000-a-year "retirement plan"
Nigeria: $2,000 one-off payment

Count Denmark into this group

A Gold medal will give a bonus of 100.000 Danish Kroner(appr. 15200 $)

A Silver medal will give a bonus of 70.000 Danish Kroner(appr. 10600 $)
and
A Bronze medal will give a bonus of 50000 Danish Kroner(appr. 7600 $)

Wonder if Sweden has done the same- promised bonus the those who win a medal

Yulia Efimova says 'Rio was awful - it was war'

Quote:

Russian swimmer Yuliya Efimova tells BBC Sport being at the Rio Olympics was "awful" and "a war".

The 24-year-old won two silver medals in Rio but was booed by spectators and criticised by her rivals after she was allowed to compete, having initially been banned by the International Olympic Committee because of two failed drug tests.

If you are or have been subject to possession of drugs or doping, maybe you see this with different eyes.

Ryan Lochte says 'immature behavior' got him into a mess

Quote:

NEW YORK (AP) — American swimmer Ryan Lochte said he over-exaggerated what happened at a Rio de Janeiro gas station and acknowledged it was his "immature behavior" that got him and three teammates into a mess that consumed the final days of the Olympics.
Lochte, in a portion of an interview with NBC's Matt Lauer that aired Saturday , continued backtracking from a story that he initially described as an armed robbery. Police have said the swimmers vandalized a bathroom after a night of partying and armed guards confronted them and asked them to pay for the damage.

This event will have consequences for those involved, it is quite clear while the OS goes into the final day.

Very likely.

Jimbuna 08-21-16 09:08 AM

Mo Farah successfully defended his Olympic 5,000m title in Rio as Great Britain won 66 medals to surpass their medal haul from London 2012.

Farah's victory added to his gold in the 10,000m as he repeated the distance double he won four years ago.

His medal was GB's 65th before bronze for the women in the 4x400m relay took Britain past the haul from London.

Wins for Nicola Adams and Liam Heath helped take GB's gold tally to 27 as they won six medals in all on Saturday.

Adams successfully defended her flyweight boxing title, while Heath won the kayak single 200m sprint on the penultimate day in Rio.

Farah, 33, is now the world's most successful distance runner in terms of major medals, with nine Olympic and world titles.

The final medal total will be at least 67, with boxer Joe Joyce guaranteed a gold or silver in Sunday's super-heavyweight final.

Throughout the day I have been thinking

Why not having two types of Olympics

1. Amateur Olympics-in this the Participants undergoes extreme doping control up to 6 month before the start of this Olympics NO professional allowed in this

2. Professional Olympics here it's free to use dope/drugs-The participant can drug them self to death if they so choice.

Great Britain have finished second in the medal table at the Rio Olympics - above China for the first time.

China are one of the Games' dominant nations, winning more than 200 gold medals since returning in 1984.

"Bayerlympics" a German blogger called it. :D

---

Its remarkable how many atheletes called Rio the worst Olypmic games there have ever been. Transportation, hygienics, appartments, organisation - everything gets plenty and plenty fo Flak. Speaker of the German team, said she feels sorry for everybody for whom particpiation this time will have been the only appearance at Oylmpics in their career. Some said they would rather stay home then doing something like this again. Wowh. It really must have been bad then if you hear that from athletes.

And then the audience. The few occasions I zapped into it, the audience applauded like crazy when a Brazilian guy or girl was performing, which is like it is on many times in sports: audience supports home team, its okay - , but when somebody else in direct competition to Brazil stood up for his run, he was mercilessly boooed out and yelled down. That is unfair, shows a remakablew, obviously nation-wide lack of sportsmanship and fairplay, and is an additional offense to the Olympic spirit, additionally to the many the IOC and dopers have already signed in to.

Was not a fan of these games form start on, and am even much less now at the end.

Lets get done with this last day of closing it down, and forget about it.
