You can never go wrong with a good German Dunkel.

My stepfather likes Krombacher he tried it once because his name is Krombach
and a German immigrant told him about Krombacher. It is fairly good you can buy it sometimes
in the US.There was this little town a few miles away from where I was stationed in Germany
the town was called Otterbach if I ever win the lottery(which will be never because I do not play)
I am going to start a brewery there and name it Otterbacher.

It seemed too weak to be an extraterrestrial beer anyway. :O:

Wait...what?

Didn't they put in for one of those licence things from the EU that stated it HAD to be brewed in Newcastle to be called Newcastle Brown Ale? (Like how Parmesan that isn't made in Parma is called 'Italian style grated cheese'.) What happened there?

Oh, and to carry on with the thread, when I do have a tipple (which isn't often, had a drink too many one night and had to work early next morning...mixed me drinks too. One sickly Oberon :haha:) I drink Newcastle, Spitfire, Old Speckled Hen and occasionally the local brew of Adnams bitter.

I'm glad no-one has mentioned Stella...tried it once and immediately rebranded it 'reassuringly overpriced for the taste'.

Spitfire is a nice drop, but not really a fan of OSH. Not given Adnams a go that I'm aware of. Will have to watch out for it next time I'm in the UK.

Aaaah Stealhead has an distinctly good taste!:Kaleun_Cheers:
Just one correction: Becks is Prussian "Beer" and Hopf is Bavarian beer, big difference! ;)
Those Prussians didnt even have Beerglasses in proper sizes! :o
What they call Beerglass we call toothbrush glass. Shocking! :haha:
And in Cologne they even use test tubes as Beerglass, even more shocking!! :haha:

And if someone wants to try, the real stuff, try this one:

Now that you mention it... :hmmm: Not a bad beer, but there are plenty of others for the same price that are better. :)

One of my recent favorites is Peace Tree Rye Porter. I'm not sure of its availability outside of Iowa, though.

:O:

Says someone who doesn't drink beer and never had a Foster's.

Ah, been many years since I was stationed in Germany. I really missed the beer, schnitzel, and brats. Bitburger was my favorite pils and Konig Ludwig dunkel my favorite dark beer.

I have yet to find any German restaurant here in the States that can match the awesome food and drink I experienced in Germany.

Thomen 02-21-12 06:37 AM

Becks.. just thinking about it makes me shudder. Another beer I cannot stand Kolsch.. the piss they brew and sell in Cologne as beer. IMHO it is as bad as Bud or Coors Here in the states I drink Yengling (good "bang" for the buck), Sam Adams and when I can find it, Pilsener Urquell, which I think is still one of the best beers overall.

Jimbuna 02-21-12 04:28 PM

A local store took a supply of this the other day....an aquired taste but not too bad.

Late to the thread, but honestly guys it's all InBev anyway and has been for some time. I suppose it doesn't really matter where it is brewed anymore. Besides, I never thought Becks to be particularly tasty. Kind of the Budweiser of Europe.

In all fairness to to InBev, when they bought out Bud they changed little to the actual structure. I may have villified them, but they have done right by Americans.

Bud is still brewed here in the Usa by Americans with the same formula. It is a good beer, I cannot say it isn't.

I just prefer something with a little more of a kick in the mouth. Hence my inclanation towards Yuengling.

On a side note, nice to see a few Yuengling fans here!:salute:

I live an hour away from the Yuengling brewery. It has a nickname here--redneck champagne. :D
