Sheesh, shouldn't you guys be being blanketed by snow by now?:D Us to the south are certainly due! If upstate is getting a reprieve I might (not really;)) believe in global warming.:D |
Calling our temperatures "siberian cold" should just illustrate how full of crap the press here is - slow news, nothing else happens other than our corrupt president.
I live in the very West of Germany, it's mostly mild and wet. The wetness is what makes "our" cold here so pesky. Like Hottentot mentioned, the dry cold the people up North have, is much easier to bear. We have an arid period going on since 2 months, today we had -2°C and sunshine - I was good in a sweater outside during my smoke breaks - it was pleasant. (Excuse me dear Finns and Canadians: I know at -2° shorts and a t-shirt are more appropriate in your countries :O:) |

Where I am, it was a nice chilly 20c yesterday, topping 24c today. And that's a welcome respite from the 30+c of the past week. Darn Melbourne weather. It's either freezing cold, boiling hot, or both in one day.
|
Going to be 60 F in Allentown tomorrow. I went to work without a coat today, and will be doing the same tomorrow. Can't recall a warmer January, and February looks to be more of the same. Going to be a hell of a year for those damn stink bugs.

Cold isn't our problem here in Reno. It's the heat. We are 10° above normal here for almost 3 months. Only had two storms so far this season, one in mid November and the other in mid January. Both came in from the South West.
When we get this kind of storm it means lots of wind, 60 MPH with gust up to 80. To the South of Reno there are narrow canyons and 80 MPH winds are common there. Both storms started wild fires. The winds took the fires right up those canyons. 4,000 acres and 31 homes lost in the first and 3,200 acres and 29 homes lost in just 6 hours in the second. Heroic efforts by the fire departments saved maybe a hundred or more homes in the second. Fireplaces ashes started this one, guy just dumped hot ashes in the back yard weeds. Virgina Peak about 15 miles from my house reported a gust of 140 MPH. That's cat 3 or 4 hurricane speeds. Wild fires at this time of the year are unheard of. We have had the driest Nov. and Dec. in a hundred years. Zero precipitation in Dec. It's hard to get lower than that. Magic |
Hitting -15c later this week
|
-10° C right now, going to be lowest next friday. Problem here is, it is a very dry but windy/airy cold, so windchill is quite effective. zero snow.
funny story: neighbours are keeping their cat in the house over night, because it's too cold. But when they go to work in the morning, the little fellow is sent outside for the day. Ten minutes later she's warming her feet on our sofa :dead:. |
+4C, everything's melted
I don't like the cold, but I do like it when there's at least snow in the winter, otherwise everything just looks brown and dreary! |
How cold is it here? We've barely had a winter this year. It is currently ~41 degrees F outside (in February!? :o), and what little snow we did have has melted off. :06:
*shakes fist at La Nina* :O: EDIT: All the C's being thrown around in this thread reminded me of this: (NSFW) http://theoatmeal.com/comics/senior_year  |
Clear blue skies , 27deg celcius (80degF)with a cool sea breeze . Not bad really :O:
