There are. You just need to look for them. No one is trying to laugh at history, just find some humor in a movie and a man who wrote a book.

You don't find it funny. Fine, you said it. Once was enough. You think it's insulting to someone. Fine, you're free to say so, and you did. If you want to say more you should start your own thread and stop spamming this one.

Don't you dare to laugh at history!.. Seriously

It was something our grandparents fought for and we shouldn;t let this to

become a joke. Well at least I think this way!!!

I sincerely ask your cooperation to keep off from posting the disdainful things that you do.

If you have to, post disdaintful images with comments below that belongs to allies!

For sure, why there is no such things that belongs to Allies ?

Why jokes are acceptable like this only against axis side ?

Those who are Germans don't forget that you are Germans!

If you let this happen - you're nothing!

Sieg Heil!

Are you not familiar with movie memes?

Etc, etc.

Das Boot is topical, which is probably why it was selected. It usually ranks toward the top of many members' movie lists when the favorite movie thread surfaces from time to time. It doesn't seem to me that anyone was making a historical statement.

Don't you dare to tell me what I should and shouldn't do for that matter.

You talk about grandparents....my mothers father was deafened due to being buried alive at the Somme and my fathers father never met me, he was a second engineer on a merchantman carrying a cargo of amminition and sailing alone...there are no records of that vessel other than it went down missing without trace.

I'll not go into my late fathers war record because that has been well documented elsewhere on this forum.

There will obviously be people from opposing countries (in warfare terms) who have similar memories and feel similarly to me.

We all reserve the right to discuss the conflicts as we see fit....the one parameter that is applicable to us all on here is that we do so without breaking the forum rules.

I'm now asking you publicly (in view of your recent posting history) to stop being a disruptive influence on so many threads or there may well be (to use a term you have quoted recently in one of said posts) consequences.

I sincerely hope I can count on your cooperation because responding to bad post reports can be time consuming.

"Sieg Heil" indeed!! :nope:

I remember an interview some years ago. It was a Danish journalist who interviewed Mel Brooks

He was asked (try to remember as much as I can)

You like to make fun of people, history or situations, are there no limits?

Mel: Offcourse, I could never make fun of the Jews or other minority that have sufferet in our history.

Yup, similar memories and contempt for the regime that made it possible and even more contempt for people who still defend it.
I find it somehow fascinating though, that your Grandpa may have been the victim of an u-boat attack, while my grandma, mom and other family members haven't been on the Wilhelm Gustloff just by pure coincidence. Still we both enjoy our subsims, you have no probs to play on the German side and I wouldn't hesistate to play a Sovjet submarine in WW2.

Small rant, sorry, but you had to quote the troll ;):
Laughable when foreigners who know nothing about the war and the bloodshed every German family had to suffer due to Heiling morons who started this madness, want to tell us how Germans have to be and what we have to think.
People like this are a disgrace to anybody who had been in the war, no matter what side but especially to the normal, drafted young German men who just wanted to survive - exactly those people Buchheim portrayed in his books. There are still people alive from this generation who would love to see a bullet put into people who would try to establish a Fourth Reich.

/rant end, now for something completely different :):

Apparently Mel Brooks doesn't know his own films too well: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2YgxI9W_3qU ;)

Jokes about Jews have the same legitimation as jokes about anyone else, hell it would be discrimination to leave those big-nosed Red Sea pedestrians out of jokes. :know:

I think he was more referring to Holocaust jokes, an understandable point of view. An analogy would be that jokes about women are ok, but jokes about raped women are not the most funny.

It was about holocaust he didn't want to make fun of (movies).
