Wish UBI would give a crap about customers and patch out the DRM.I would buy SH 5 and give it a shot now that there are multiple mods out, but not till the DRM is gone.Just pure crap:damn:

And this far out from the release they should do what they said they would and patch the DRM out.

Yes. They have sold their copies, SH5 is now at budget prices to buy so why the anti piracy still in, no pirate is going to bother to upload this game they have moved on to other games. Take the DRM out and fix it so no internet & servers required. Those that refuse to buy SH5 cause of it will probably buy the game once the drm and servers are gone.

I think I got a server shut down or server reboot last night first time for me, game shutdown & I was back at the dt but I was able to log back in and play, unless it was a crash.

I know I will. If they released a new version guaranteed DRM-free and charged $50 for it, I'd pay it in a heartbeat.

It appears to me that a lot of this comes down to saving face. UbiSoft put most of their eggs in this DRM basket; attaching it to a number of titles, some of them very high profile. All the while, their customer base was screaming at them to recognize the fact that this DRM was, for a multitude of reasons, a bad idea. Patching out the DRM would be akin to a tacit recognition of this truth.

Madox58 10-18-11 06:37 PM

They can't patch out DRM IF they are 'illegally' useing your system to pass on other information.
:hmmm:

I find the latest patch to be "Highly Suspect" when you consider no support for SH5 and a 'New" patch?

kylania 10-18-11 07:37 PM

What patch?

Madox58 10-18-11 07:44 PM

Load up and log in Baby!
You'll get a "Patch".
But it has NOTHING TO DO WITH SH5!

You mean that launcher patch ? I think the last one i noticed was 2 or so days ago . I did notice a slow down and i notice some window loading when my comp boots up into main screen . I also noticed some microsux update a few days ago , or was that last week  It updated the registry or something :hmmm:

If you know the time of when that patch was applied you can search your temp files for it. The .exe file for it should be somewhere in the temp files. I'd be curious to 'look' at it under a debugger to see what it did.

Madox58 10-18-11 07:56 PM

I run several programs that watch things in a VERYU detailed way.
Once I saw a post of a new patch?
I disabled the DRM thing I run.
(Ya give me a Bad Boy slap here if you feel you must)
I got the patch and looked at it.
That's when I started the thread!
You got crap dumped on your system that YOU DID NOT AGREE TO HAVE!!
UBI went WAY outside thier bounds on this issue and I intend to call them to the carpet on it!!

At the time I had a terrible connection, and that was the reason I gave, but as time went on I realized that I had said I wouldn't buy it as long as the DRM was there, and to go back on that now would be to betray any honor I have left, so I can't and won't. On the other hand I like to think that if no one at all had bought it, and given that reason, the DRM might have been gone within a week.

But probably not. I live in my own little dream world.

SH5 looks attractive and seems to be shaping up, but like you I am still holding out. Not so much for reasons of principle but practical...I travel a lot these days and I refuse to buy a game that can only be played when I have an Internet connection.

If UBI validated the DRM like Steam does (online activation and offline mode), no problem. I can live fine with that. But until they get rid of the connection requirement on launch, my last UBI purchase will remain SH3.
