http://socialistworker.org/2011/02/2...tian-socialist What strategic alliances can the Egyptian working class make during this "transition"? How strong is the socialist party, and what influence did it play during the brief revolution? How should other political parties play a role in shaping Egypt new government/economy without collaboration with corrupt institutions? What are your thoughts on the Mubarak regime? Okay here's a clean slate, and hopefully we can have a civil discussion/debate for those interested an intelligent conversation. |

You haven't had an intelligent conversation on this subject yet. I've changed my opinion - you are indeed a childish troll. |

August has discussed many things intelligently and fairly in the past. His attitude toward you is based on your constant childish prattle about the evils of our country. A Hammer & Sickle with a line through it is hardly equal to the Capitol of the United States in flames. If you don't want that, don't post it. You shouldn't be talking about anti-Communist rhetoric after the attacks you have staged so many times on this board. You have jumped right into threads trashing the United States, and now you complain about someone doing the same to you, and much less virulently? My opinion of you stands. You also didn't answer either one of my challenges. Are you avoiding that? |

Secondly, you continually attack the US without rhyme or reason. You can't complain when people treat you in kind. You need to grow up and treat people with respect. Then you'll see them do the same. |

You sure are quick for a reply. I edited the thread below -.- |
It's times like these when I'm seriously wondering why I'm writing my master's thesis on Soviet Union's history (Between 1928 - 1945 and times of emerging Stalinism, no less). Guys like the OP really don't make it easier for us who have genuine academic interest in the subject. A cookie to anyone who can guess how many sentences I can usually say about this before someone asks if I'm a communist.
For anyone interested, I recommend finding Chris Ward's "Stalin's Russia" and reading the last chapter. The whole book is good in my opinion, but the last chapter is specifically interesting. Ward dicusses (among other things) the problem of how a historian should approach a subject that is seen by the majority as fundamentally evil and that's crimes are proven and documented. The same problem applies for many other fields, I reckon, like those interested in the Third Reich. The last chapter is only like 2 or 3 pages long, so if you happen to see the book in a library and have a minute to spare, I recommend checking it out. And as for the OP I have only one thing to say: :nope:. |

1: You rant about evil Amerikans [sic] this and that all the time. 2: After this you come up with "it's not good/evil" argument. Without reading any of what I have written in my thesis, I might add. 3: You keep repeating a few key phrases all the time. Key phrases of which none require higher level of knowledge of the subject than high school's history books. Poorly and selectively read, I might again add. 4: After this you come up with the "realpolitik" argument, which is pretty much the most used argument you can ever come up with when discussing matters like these. Again without reading any of my work and knowing if I have taken the matter in the account. I remain unimpressed. And on the border between insulted and amused that you assume I haven't decided to take the microhistorical level into account in my research. |
