Precisely

Missed the original thread, don't want to wake the dragon as it seems; did the B-24 crew survive (the war) or face the fate of most bomber crews? Have read about the incident before in detail. Never cared much about the farce that Nurenburg was since nearly all the major players killed themselves to evade capture, or managed to escape anyways. Thank the lord for Israel's "justice" for the ones that escaped.

can you describe what occurred in this case with B-24

Seems to be a recurring theme in memoirs of kaluens I have read that they viewed survivors as 'brother seamen' in distress and no longer the enemy.

didnt Otto do that?

I wouldn't doubt it, but if you mean Kretschmer, he was captured in March 1941 and so was out of action a year and a half before the Laconia Order was issued.

And early in the war it was not as risky for a u-boat to hang around and render some assistance, at least where lone merchants were involved. Later on it was a different story entirely - Allied defenses were not spread so thin and they had more and more resources with which to take the offensive themselves.

It was only two nights ago that I read about Camp 30 where Kretschmer was imprisoned. Fascinating stuff, what went on there with the prisoner revolt, and escapes.

I would assume it refers to the B24 Liberator that attacked the u-boat(s) that were attempting to rescue and transport Laconia survivors.

You could indeed be correct. I've just spent the last 30 mins reading over the link that Ediko posted earlier (much earlier).

May bring it back to life for a bit of fun :dead::yawn::stare::D:yeah:
