This year Ubi shifted 9 million copies of Assasins Creed 2. I don't think Ubi is about to just disappear with sales numbers like that. Although judging by their latest just announced title they deserve to!!

I knew it wouldn't be long before the Ubisoft cheerleaders showed up in this thread. You are wrong, Sonarman. As I have said before, sales and profits are two different things.

Ubisoft Posts Losses As Assassin's Creed II Nears 9 Million

French Splinter Cell publisher Ubisoft recorded a decrease in sales and a loss for the fiscal year ended March 31, 2010, blaming worldwide economic downturn.

The company on Tuesday recorded a 17.7 percent drop in annual sales to €871 million ($1.08 billion), and posted a loss of €43.7 million ($54.02 million).

Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot said in a statement, "The global economic crisis had a pronounced impact on the video game industry in 2009, which contracted by nearly 10 percent year-on-year."

"Ubisoft’s sales were hit particularly hard, falling 18 percent over the full year despite a stabilization in the second half of the year, when figures came in on a par with the corresponding period of 2008-09," he added.

It doesn't matter how many games they ship. If Ubisoft doesn't become profitable very soon, they are finished. Their stocks are almost worthless now compared to 2 years ago. And it's not just Ubisoft Romania. Other devs are leaving Ubi. They know she's going down:

Assassin's Creed
Director Departs Ubisoft Montreal

Ubisoft Montreal's Patrice Desilets, who played a pivotal role in the Assassin's Creed and Prince of Persia franchises, has left the company, according to an official statement.

The creative director's departure comes as Ubisoft Montreal prepares the release of Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, the third main entry for the popular third-person action series Desilets helped build, for later this year.

Ubisoft claims the director already completed most of the work it required from him, according to a report from Game Informer: "With his role on project essentially done, Patrice Desilets has decided to take a creative break from the industry and is no longer working on Assassin's Creed Brotherhood."

Although Desilets himself has not commented, it appears that he has permanently left the Ubisoft studio -- but no announcement about any new positions have been made.

As I said before, I give them until next year at the latest. Whether they are swallowed up by another company or file bankruptcy, they are finished.

I never said they were doing well I was merely indicating that they are still afloat and have the potential to remain so. As for being a Ubisoft cheerleeder?... they really only make one game series that interests me (SH) and they have unfortunately messed that up this time out. I hope for our sake that they do give the series another chance and actually listen to what their customers are trying to tell them. But as your many figures indicate sadly the smartest thing for Yves & crew to do right now is drop Silent Hunter like a rock and put "all hands on deck" to churn out as many Assasins Creed bolt- ons & sequels as possible to return the company to profitability asap.

Sorry. I shouldn't have called you a Ubisoft cheerleader.

I am guessing the only way that they could return to profitability would be to cut everything to the bone... downsize massively like so many other companies have done to try and stay afloat. But chances are that it's already too late for that. If and when they go under, I would guess it would be sometime in the spring or summer of 2011. They will try and hold on at least through Christmas this year.

Not so fast, buddy. Before you are eligible for holding Ubi stock you must guarantee the availability of a permanent internet connection to their servers, as your stock will only maintain or gain value as long as that connection exists. If it is ever disrupted your stock will be considered rogue and you a hacker. And this time there are no save games.

Funny, it takes less security to buy the shares of the company than to play one of its games... Also, the shares you can sell again, but the game is stuck to your Ubi account...

Also funny, the graphic on the original post looks a lot like my feelings over the release of SH5. The announcement catches my attention, the hype builds me up and at the top of my eagerness the game is finally released, only to turn out a massive, say, drop in value.

Makes you wonder what a gaming world without EA & Ubi would be like. Could in some ways be a much healthier thing giving lots of the smaller companies a much better standing/chance in the marketplace particularly now that the traditional retail channels for PC games are going the way of the dodo.

I wonder if people are starting to realize that 50 bucks is too much for a game. Just a thought.

I bought it quite a few years back as part of a 'balanced' fuel provider equities investment portfolio and must say that taking into consideration the dividends I have enjoyed over the years, the investment has been a sound/positive one.

Now, if I'm to be totally honest, any further sudden 10-15% overnight drops would impact on previous dividends received and yes....my ar$e is starting to twitch like a rabbits nose

Yea, it was the latter half there that I was thinking about. Hope you don't see any more of those drops. :)

The shares were initially released in roughly Oct 87 for £1.20ish just a few days before the stock market crashed but have been as high as £6.55 in the last 6 months and are currently around the £3.40 mark.

Many wealthy people have made unimaginable profits over that period, believe me.

I do not consider myself to be in the above category.

I adhere to one principal...never invest more than you can afford to lose.

Hence the lowly pittance I dabble with :DL

You all are gonna get what you paid for. Wishes and Dreams. But... forget about what counts.

Not me. I bought SH3 before I learned about their copy protection schemes (here at SUBSIM), uninstalled it soon afterwards and never bought any subsequent SH versions out of protest.
