Look, I don't like that SH5 is unfinished either, but but like it or not, that's the reality, and no amount of grumbling or ranting or tantrum-spamming is going to change that. You can't just sulk in the corner like some disappointed child and say that you're giving it up on a matter of principle.

Two years from now, I want SH5 to be a thriving game with its own patches, mods, and supermods (or at least unreleased, soon-to-be-finished super mods). I don't want people to say, "sure, it had wolfpacks and milk cows and advanced teamwork with AI forces, but we let it die because having fun would send the wrong message":nope:.

You're making a great argument for waiting two years to pick it up, actually. It'll be $9.95, they might have gotten over their anti-consumer DRM fetish and removed it by then, the community will have modded the game to a well-functioning state...and I get to send my message in the meantime.

I will say that, heavily Modded, SH5 is fantastic!

It's a shame that The Devs probably won't read this far into a Thread that has a horribly offensive title. I wouldn't blame them if they had nothing to do with this Community again. The Moderators should've deleted this thread the moment it was created.

Everybody is entitled to his/her's own opinion.
So I disagree with you on that point.
I'm sure the dev's will know how to deal with negative critisism.

It's a fan base here, ppl have positive experiences and negative experiences.
As long as it is ventilated in acceptable form, I can not see why the moderators or the admin should have closed the thread.

For the record, I have no opinion about the game play of SH5 since I've never played it.

It's just that I think freedom of speech is a basic human right.
No matter if you or me like the message or not.

Peace

In Silent hunter 4, I could add every option in the graphics and my Intel i7 processor would have it working like water. Also, it would show in 1980x1080 because I have an HD computer. Silent hunter 5, won't even play smootly on my powerful computer....

I agree that many of the features present in previous releases are hidden or not as accessible, the mods will take care of this... Now, regarding the playability due to intense graphics.

I have it maxed out on all settings and highest resolution and it runs great!
Mine is a similar PC to yours processor-wise. What you may need is a faster video card or more RAM.

Also you may need to tweak the video settings. This is common to most any game that comes with high level 3d graphics.

I see this all the time from people with aging computers. don't blame the game, upgrade your box. Be happy!

Sorry, but the only thing I have to say is that there has been a dozen of threads like this already.

You will maybe find solutions in the SH5 Mods Workshop forum.

Don't blame the poster, blame the game.... It deserves many posts about how bad certain aspects are.

Yeah, because complaining about the same thing over and over has always proven to be helpful...

Why modders should waste their time fixing deliberate design flaws?

Their time is better spent expanding games with a better base (ie SH4+UB addon) instead of doing what the developer were supposed to and that customers already paid.

What has SH5 really to offer? Better graphics? Yeah, marginally better than SH4 yet terribly more demanding in terms of hardware requirements. Full sub interiors? Puh-lease... that's to keep entertained kids; the novelty wears off pretty soon ad they're of no consequence to the "simulation" aspect.

Let this software die... SH5 already caused the death of GWX for SH4 which would have been a much better product than SH5 will ever hope to be.

Exactly. Modders should not be expected to fix a product that people pay a premium for. Moreover the devs know about this community and could easily use it for real QA but elect not to in the name of profit margins. Then to add insult to injury they lock it down with DRM.

The industry needs to change! Software is the only industry where you can willingly and knowing sell half finished products and get away with it. People need to stand up for their right and stop being sheeple. The more companies do it and the more they get away with it the more incentive they have to continue doing so.

That is why I stopped modding games. I got sick of dealing with crap trying to fix things and then have the devs try over and over again to lock things down even when broken. It makes me sick...

I agree very much with the spirit of those who refuse to by the game on moral grounds concerning the DRM. It is an insult to those who do purchase the game legitimately, and will only hurt their sales figures.

However I did purchase the game myself and have had no problems what-so-ever with it. I know some have, but in my personal experience it is (by itself) nothing that would prevent me from purchasing the game. And while the product does have its share of bugs (or maybe more than its share), I haven't found any of them that are game breaking on my end.

I think alot of the furor over the game will die down in the coming weeks. It's understandable why people are upset: we all have a passion for submarine games and with SH being the biggest gorilla on the block, it is only human to hope for it to reach our most basic expectations. We all have a common love, and we don't like to see it treated with anything but respect.

That being said, I am probably one of the few people who is perfectly fine purchasing a game knowing its the modders that will make it great. I love Paradox Interactive's games, but I know full well that the modders will take their good products and make them excellent. Of course PI, unlike Ubisoft, is very committed to fan-feedback and will release many, many patches to support their products. Not to mention the SH5 modders have a longer ways to go with this release.

But all in all I am perfectly satisfied with my SH5 purchase. I have been enjoying it for the past few days without any hangups, and the only CTD or other major event that disrupted my playing was due to my own computer and not the servers. So its not a perfect game, and it should have been released later to polish some of the bugs, and the DRM is an affront to gamers, but this game is not broken nor "bad".

It's like a dented Shelby Cobra that has flat tires and a cracked windshield. The potential is there, but it is going to take alot of work and dedication to really get there.

Anyway, thats my $0.02.

You know, I could force myself to see past the DRM (I would simply remove it) and purchase the title but I wont. Simply because Ubi keeps releasing the product half baked. We are talking three iterations now and two from the same dev studio (I believe) with the same core issues dare I say failing.

On a side note, PI and SD are my two favorite dev houses. Shoot I been an "in-house" tester for them for years now. So my opinion might be somewhat biased.

I see what you mean, but you used the word post and I used the word thread.

i.e. there's already plenty threads about it, including a sticky.

Again, I understand the sentiment. But to be honest, I usually just look at is as a case of denying myself the fun of the game (with mods, of course) to prove a point, or actually enjoying the game (with faults aplenty) and just counting on the talented modders to fix some of the worst problems.

And one of the reasons I have really loved PI in recent years is that their licensing decision for their games means that groups that started out as modders can now actually make a profit from their work by selling full blown games based off of Paradox's own game engines. So finally modders are getting some financial reward for their labors.

3. The Devs are on your side: Criticism is a natural part of the game-making process. Just try not to go overboard in your criticism. Many of us know the members of the Dev team, so abuse will not be tolerated.

No one's saying we shouldn't be allowed to say what we want about the game. What I object to is the spamming of threads about the subject when there already is a sticky "SH5 player review" thread for people to use. It doesn't matter if the subject is wolf packs, potatoes, how much you hate the game or the price of tea in China (although the negative attitude of the spammers certainly isn't helping matters) -- it's impolite and juvenile to make a thousand threads on the same subject when one will do just fine.

For crying out loud, there's a big thread called "SH5 is terrible" -- what's wrong with just posting there?
