Personally
Would rather see some merchants/tankers
After all that is what I am at sea for
Though tis nice to see a battlewagon I dont expect to see them more than once - after I have sunk it anyway
:rotfl2:

Heres hoping there are more type= designations ingame than previous releases
Gives modders a greater scope to add a different class of ship that wont show where other should ie my old fave coastal merchants

QFT.

Once again there seems to be a fixation with large, fancy battleships & carriers, even though the Battle of the Atlantic was all about sinking commercial ships. I would be happy with about 3-4 generic varieties of merchants, troopships, & tankers, like in "Aces of the Deep", but somehow I doubt that even that many will ship with the game.

Sincerely hope will be more than that ingame
Hopefully a better mix too and variety
No C2s for everyone as in SH3 :nope: including Germany :rotfl2:

Some totally generic shipping plus the Victory\Liberty\Oceans\Parks\Forts\Doxfords etc would be cool

Plus, if you think about it for a moment the premise of the Dynamic Campaign video is unrealistic.

It advises that we can "change history" by attacking Force H & other groups of capital ships, when in reality sinking these units was extremely difficult. You had to:

A) Be in a position where they were sailing towards your sub, since BB's and CV's usually were faster than 20 kts

B) Get close enough to avoid detection

C) Calculate speed, bearing, and range on an object moving much faster than the average merchant ship.

The only BB's and CV's sunk at sea by U-Boats during WWII were the following:

Courageous
Ark Royal
Barham
Eagle
Block Island
Avenger
Audacity

That comes out to little more than one heavy unit sunk per year of the war by the ENTIRE U-BOAT ARM. It's also worth noting that "Block Island", "Avenger", and "Audacity" were basically mercantile units with speeds slower than a U-Boat (15-16.5 kts) & poor protection. Plus the sinking of "Ark Royal" was a very lucky, 1-in a million shot.

Hunting task forces was not feasible until the post-WWII era, when submerged speeds began to approach the speeds of surface ships. Recognizing this, the Kriegsmarine usually assigned U-Boats to sink merchant vessels alone, only attacking heavy ships under the most favorable circumstances. But hey, I suppose the all-important "casual players" need a dozen battleship scalps to make themselves feel good.

Too much "battleships" opsession... and simulation should be directed to merchants and convoys, i.e. search for them...

But I guess that kids that are "target group" of Ubi marketing like blasting HMS Rodney and change the history...
But who are we, anyway, to complain...?

Dowly 02-07-10 03:45 PM

:DL "Taken out" is 80% of simulation community... so battleships are not problem, just leave them... They are too large to be saved online, anyway...;)
