That's a good question, there are many different opinions on this matter and the doctors and scientists have yet to come to agreement on this, but for me, I would say that if you must have a drink everyday, however little then you are an alcoholic. (IMO)

And I drink on my own a lot when I drink because I find very few people here in Plymf that I actually enjoy drinking with

Also, Hey you're a student! you are meant to be having a good time with your friends, just watch out for that daily habit.

I'm 19 and don't drink...there's already enough kids getting boozed up in this town underage (the pregnancy rate of our particular county shows it) I would prefer not to join that certain statistic.

However, I mix drinks (Manhattan up, anyone?) for my mom and I enjoy a glass or two of wine on holidays.

This is one of the problems with diagnosing alcoholism, there are no universal signs that can be measured.

One school of thought is to follow the criteria in the DSM IV, for other disorders, in that a person is an alcoholic when he or she

1. Their drinking causes social, legal, economic, or business problems (a disorder) and

2. The person recognizes that their drinking is the cause of this disorder, and

3. The person has tried to stop/control drinking and

4. Is unable to stop or control their drinking

However, this is a less than satisfactory criteria.

This problem with diagnosing alcoholism is one of the reasons some practitioners do not like characterizing alcoholism as a disease, but more along the lines as an addiction or in some cases a compulsion.

The problem is that alcoholism is all of these and more. There is much the medical and psychological world still needs to understand about alcoholism.

I just find the right friends to drink with. All my friends are nice responsible people (even when drunk) who'll never get you into trouble. And who care for you and get you home, should something go really wrong.
(Oh yeah, you don't really have to worry about joining the pregnancy rate statistics, sledge:O:
...or did you get any transgender surgery I don`t know of:o)

Don't know why but mixes give me headaches. Gimme a mix and 3...2...1...POOF within 3 quarters my head is bursting.
I can drink strong drinks (whiskey, tequilla, etc.) with no problems, but mixes are a quite different story...

I'm still a guy but I'm looking at it from the "I don't want to be screwed over buying diapers and toys and books and cars and all the other things that comprises being an american teenager for the next 18 years" side of the fence.

As for mixes...I'm not fond of them either (said Manhattan smells like gasoline and I fear it is just as bad when ingested)

well drinking doesn't mean you have to f*ck every girl you see. As far as I'm concerned, alcohol and sex don't have very much to do with each other.
(okay, maybe you get a little more 'loose' and do things you normally wouldn't likely do, but I've never in my life done anything I really regretted when drunk. I can still think when I'm drunk, so generally I'll never do insensible/irresponsible things. If I had sex with a girl while I was drunk, it would be with a girl I would have sex with if I were sober)

But for some the beer goggles make it hard to tell the difference:
