Can anyone explain to me how exactly to use the He-111's bomb sight?

Dowly 09-03-09 06:29 PM

The german sights are (atleast I think so) messed. My best tip is to practise with certain altitude and throttle % and to see where you gotta point to hit. Like I use usually 3000m and 80% throttle and can hit rat's arse after a few tries.

Does the autobomb shown in the He-111 tutorial actually work?

What autobomb?

The one that you set a timer on in the options panel, and it blows up in the air doing something to the ground...:yep:

Just watch the instruction movie. It really isn't that hard once you get a bit familiar with it. First you've got to give the bombsight your altitude and speed. Then look forward through it and aim it on your target. When it is in the crosshairs switch to auto. Now the bombsight will start to move according to your settings. If the crosshairs stay on target, bingo, your settings are correct (will never happen on the first try and dont press the auto button before your bombsight isn't at least down to 65° or you will have to correct your settings time and agains just to be where you came from when it is under 65°). If your target moves out of the sight to the top of your screen your speed was set too fast. Lower it, reaim the sight on your target and switch to auto again. If the target moves out of your sights to the bottom of your screen you have a too low speed setting. Raise it, reaim, switch to auto.
Once the bombsight believes you are in the right position (and if your crosshairs stayed on target you usually are) it will release the bombs automatically.

BTW your speedsetting has to be the true airspeed, not the indicated one. The true airspeed is somewhat greater than the indicated one depending on altitude.
The nice thing about the auto sights is, that they show you wheter your speed setting is correct or not. You can pretty much forget about accurate altitude settings. Just enter your indicated altitude and correct any error with the speedsetting (at least that is what I do).

Again, watch the tutorial movie, it explains everything you need to know.

I guess I have to get used to it, right now I just pray my bombs hit their target.

Is there a way to take screenshots? I've tried two different screen capture programs, but only end up with black screenshots.

Edit: Scratch that, I figured it out.

Apparently the printscreen button creates a .tga and saves it in your IL-2 folder.

I just tried landing on a carrier for the first time. Despite the fact that, while practicing on a runway I lost my right wing and rudder, I managed to land on the carrier in one piece. :yeah:
Posting the video on youtube now, it'll take a while to upload.

Here's the video.
