Thanks for the info, maerean, we appreciate it.

And don't worry; the dog is being well cared for. For now.

I don't intend to... Just because it seems to be using the same file structure doesn't mean the whole code base is similar. It could take me many more months and I'm not up for that anymore. I'll just be 'playing' the game...

since sh5 is built on the sh4 file structure, with luck s3d will work flawlessly with sh5 and at best need only a minor tweak to add a new feature or two

I'm hearing alarm bells, yet my screen isn't playing SH3...

You know it may not be as bad as you guys may think. Keep in mind that at its core, SH4 is still very much a uboat game since its derived from Sh3. Fleet boats work entirely different from uboats on many levels so with sh4, what you had was a uboat game, that was shoehorned to fit into a fleet boat paradigm. Of course its not going to work out all that great.

With the uboat mission addon, you had uboats being shoehorned back into the mix, which had already been cobbled around a paradigm it wasn't originally designed for. Again, of course its not going to work out all that great.

If i was a betting man, id wager that the SH4 engine being used, is a patched/fixed version of Sh4 1.4 with the changes for fleetboats peeled back and culled to remove that layer of abstraction that didn't work so well. And really, aside from bug fixes added in 1.5, theres only four or so issues off the top of my head that would have to be resolved to have a rock solid platform. The dev's have had plenty of time since the uboat mission addon to fix those issues, and i would think they'd have to done that first before trying to add anything else.

Besides that, uboats with improved eyecandy with full interactive and rendered interior? The majority here will eat that up and ask for more regardless of release state :DL

agreed but isnt it much more likely they would start off with the v1.5 game with the fixes built in?

in my mind they are going to replace everything fleetboat with the sh3 uboat stuff and then jazz it up for using the newer game engine and grafics.

for a long time we have been thinking "why doesnt ubi use sh4 game with sh3 content added" so maybe thats what we will finally get now.

it stands to reason the quick developement time for this game is due to having most everything they need already built (sh3 files) or can be easily cloned and the main work to be done is to debug everything for the new game engine
