I am a Republican so I didn't vote for President Obama. However, the fact that there are people carrying guns anywhere near this man is frightening to me. I do not think it is appropriate no matter what. I've heard that many black Americans believe that some white guy is going to shoot the President! I'm white and I for one do not want this to happen. Yeah, I didn't vote for him and I don't particularly care for many of his ideas to fix The United States but I believe that it would be the worst thing to happen to the country in decades. The country is almost evenly divided politically and something like that could split the country in two. I am a gun owner, I know how to handle firearms and learned at an early age how to operate, aim and fire them. I do not want to lose this right and I feel that if something happens to Obama those in power will use it to take away my right. This man has as much right to live as I do to own and bear arms. Actually he has more right to live than anyone does to bear arms. In my honest opinion, if some nut-job kills President Obama we'll have a race war. Perhaps I'm over dramatizing this but that's how I feel.....

Someone feel free to correct me if I am wrong. After Alexander Hamilton was killed in a duel, did they outlaw dueling pistols? No. When Lincoln was assassinated did they outlaw guns then? No. On that fateful day in Dallas where President Kennedy was shot did they outlaw rifles? Again the answer is no. If someone assassinates President Obama they won't make guns illegal. And as for a race war, there's been one in this country for the past forty years.

however if you have a mandatory budget number which must be spent on each school, the white kids will only have whites to blame or praise for their scholastic performance.... the black kids will only have blacks to blame or praise for their scholastic performance etc. when i was in high school i was there to learn, get into college and secure a nice job after it was all said and done - this was made rather difficult by the fact that blacks who were obviously in gangs would walk the halls four across shoving everyone out of the way chanting "raise up against whitey" not the most appropriate environment for learning. the problem is you have kids of various races who want to be there... and kids of various races who go out of their way to make everyone aware of the fact that they HATE being there. |

Is that the reason prisoners are separated in prison? -S |
Separate but equal does NOT work. It's simply impossible.
For starters, our society isn't simply black and white. Besides blacks and whites (which on their own can be broken down into almost-infinite subgroups), we've got Hispanics, Asians, Native Americans, Indians, Pacifikas, Canadians, and countless others. What schools would they go to? Then there's the mixed-race people. Everybody calls Obama a black man, but he had a white mother and was raised by white parents. What school would he have gone to? Segregation also induces racism. If you're in a room with a black person, you're probably not going to say too many racist things against them, and if you do you'll get somebody telling you it's wrong. But if you're just with your white friends, I imagine you're a lot more likely to say something racist and get away with it. I know that's how it works with my friends and myself. Heck, in the worst days of racism in America, the most racist people weren't the rednecks in the south, it was the white urban poor in the Northeast who almost never saw black people. But the biggest thing is that being around people that are different than you makes life more interesting. I'd hate it if everybody I met was just like me. One of the reasons I hang around this forum is that most people here have different views than me. The same is true for races. I'm always especially interested to hear what people of different races have to say on hot-button issues or just hear their stories, since it's often something I haven't heard or thought about before. It's cliche, but variety really is the spice of life. Embrace it. |
