I'm thinking maybe a little FPS boost. We'll see. To be honest, upgrading was a bonus when my 8800 went to Davey Jones' Locker.

Whatever the case, you will be playing and playing it very well. In the end, that is all that matters. :D

Well... I HAD an Nvidia 8800 GTS a few hours ago. I fired up Rainbow Six Vegas 2... saw a pyschadelic display and my computer crashed to the desktop at 640x400 resolution.

Funny, I had the same last sunday with my Nvidia 8800 GTX. I started Darkest Hour, the screen went into green vertikal stripes like Matrix and then back to desktop. After reboot, the display showed still these green stripes and every time some seconds later came a blue screen -> VRAM corrupted.

Yesterday I bought a Nvidia 275 GTX, which was cheaper as the 8800GTX at his time.:know:

Weird!!! Was there an EMP somewhere to which the 8800GTS was vulnerable?!

Maybe the chinese are testing weapons.... lock your card in a lead-lined safe dude.

Task Force 08-05-09 01:09 PM

lol... how old was you twos cards... mines around 2 years old... and has been overclocked that entire 2 years... (and as Ive said before overheated once...)

AVGWarhawk 08-05-09 01:20 PM

Sounds like scheduled obsolesence on the 8800 card. RUN :o

Task Force 08-05-09 01:22 PM

lol, IT WONT DIE... lol

Well, atleast it runs cool.. (57degrees, crysis overclocked to around 600 core 875 memory...)

Its running at 47 degrees at idle.

Unfortuneatly this has been happening, a lot with Nvidia GPUs in laptops. I can't bring up a link off the top of my head but go google Nvidia GPU Solder problem, hitting some of their laptop parts (6150, 8400MGS and 8600MGS to name a few) really hard. I have heard of some desktop cards failing (8400, 8500 and 8600) but I haven't heard of this affecting the 8800s until now. I used to have an 8800GT that ran pretty damn hot (stock reference cooling system, she would hit 100*C under load) but I am quite happy with my ATI HD4870. I usually recommend ATI now for GPUs, even though they do have some driver issues, I have to say that in my experience the MODERN (I.E came out within the last 2 years) ATI cards/chips are more reliable than Nvidia has become. Either way good luck with your new card.

Yea... Did you turn the fans up The Bandit... cause my card never goes up past 65degrees under load...:yep:

The Bandit 08-05-09 10:49 PM

yeah I could ramp up the fan on it and it would help out a bit, fan was quite loud on it though and led to an RMA (The bearing or somthing went in it and the fan blades started rubbing on the fan sink). This was the 8800GT just packs too much in a single slot layout. my 4870 gets never runs over 65*C and has a really nice cooler but I think it also has better thermal management for triggering the fans.

Task Force 08-05-09 10:58 PM

it may make noise... but I dont care... lol...

But your temps... what were your clocks?

The Bandit 08-06-09 12:05 AM

I can't remember off of the top of my head. It was a factory OC card and I pretty much left the timings alone (never was slow doing anything so I figured why bother), all I really did was turn u p the fan. As far as I know the guy who has it now still has the 2nd card working for him (mentioned in the first post that my first one was RMAed due to a bad fan)
