Has anyone been in such situation?

To my knowledge, none ever went back through Gibraltar.....:hmmm:...
The Italians went a lot back and forth in 1940. But, that was 1940.

Well wish me luck,I'm off to the Med,Kaleun Oberleutnant Otto Schnedier and the crew of U-98 are leaving St Nazaire,Hopefully not for the last time, but for a while at least:03:
See you in the officers Mess Meduza:salute::salute::salute:

Jawohl, Herr Kaleun! :salute:

Good luck and keep as informed of your progress.

Well I did it and I'm safely in the Med:woot:,after a few false starts:oops: Stayed very much out of trouble as I didn't want to be carrying any damage through the straits.
Of all the times I could have done with some filthy weather,it was gloriously sunny and calm the whole way through:damn:
Getting through the Gib Straits wasn't half as bad as I thought it would be,went through like Meduza on the surface at night with decks awash, only dived twice when a DD got to close, and then did it really slow so as not to attract attention:03:
Visibility was wonderful which aloud me to plot course away from any trouble, having 16k atmos on really helps when it comes to spotting trouble before it spots you:up:
Made my way to Salamis as quickly as I could, not wanting to be the first idiot to get sunk on his way to a new base:88)Damn RAF are a pain in the butt:timeout:Mind you I've decided to dive at the first sign of a plane,I'm not waiting to find out if they like me or not:03:
Docked in Salamis in one piece and I have to say its very pretty :yeah:Palm trees and stuff, very nice:sunny:
Thought I'd take the crew out for a shakedown patrol in our new surroundings and headed down to Torbruk way,:arrgh!:Pics to follow.......

Nikbear, I'm glad you've made it! Welcome to the Med! :salute:

I already got my orders to transfer to La Spezia, and my first patrol out of it was almost fatal.

BTW, I've done some reading, and found that the real U-371, (the boat I'm curently sailing on), made the same voyage from Brest to Salamis, in Sep-Oct 1941. :DL Unfortunately she was sunk on May 4th 1944, taking three sailors with her.

Thanks Meduza:salute: Had My first patrol, thought just a little shakedown might get the crew settled:hmmm: Trolling along minding our own enjoying the weather,we spotted a DD,down to P/D and went quiet so as not to annoy the new neighbours:03: Except the SO keeps calling them out, more and more:06:Popped the scope for a quick look?........Only 3 BB's,2 Dido's and god knows how many DD's:o:timeout::dead: I nearly crapped myself!!!!:03:
After regaining some composure I decided its death or glory time:rock:

The last 4 DD's came along after, probably looking for yours truly after I'd been naughty with the RN's finest,Got away totally unscathed in both encounters, stayed at PD and kept very quiet.
they went nuts looking for me,but never came to close, think it was a bit of a suprise for them:salute:Worried now that I might have used up all my luck, but it was worth it:yeah:

meduza 06-16-09 05:08 PM

Not bad. :D If you continue this way, the RN will soon run out of Nelsons. :DL

Keep up the good work! :salute:

nikbear 06-16-09 05:25 PM
