Ahh sorry to hear this Ted,
So far unluckily you're the only one that's reported a lockup :( I see others trying the 177.39's are getting fps hits, But may help you i really dunno From what i can gather myself with older GTS and others with GTX's these seem as stable as i could of ever hoped for (no crashes yet i mean) You say you running a GT, If no luck with the 175.19's, If you can post back with all the 177.** driver versions you've tried, I'll try and see if i can knock up another that you haven't tried Cheers Ciao Def |
What drivers haven't I tried is more like it.
Still going ok with 175.19 [crossing fingers], but I've tried 175.16, 177.39, 175.12, 174.74, plus another few. If it's been on the nvidia site, I've tried it. I also tried one or two versions I only found on guru3d or in the nividia forums. That gets me to thinking, the one thing I didn't try was going back to 16x.xx drivers. If I get another crash, I may give that a go. That previous crash that moved me to install the 175.19s produced a mini-dump that faulted nvlddmkm.sys, so I'm still banging my head against the same problem it would seem. |
Heya,
Yeah i know the feeling of banging head lol Feel for you i really do, So far it seems you're the only one that's come forward having problems with a GT most others seem to be GTX mainly Now ati are back as such with the new cards the nvidia drivers should be flying out at a faster rate (imho they have held back drivers for economic reasons lol but that's just my 2c) Having no GT to test i'm at a loss as to what else to try, Just keep on searching for remaining files though especially the nvlddmkm.sys's .................................................. .................................................. ....... Well i'm about to go crossfire with 2 ati 4870's with a new x48 mobo Been fighting the urge to buy but gonna order now i thinks If i come across anything specific regarding the GT obviously i'll post back, This current card's going in a spare rig i got so can still maybe try and test drivers etc for the 8 series I'll keep my fingers crossed for you :) Edit: The fix i got to work just as leaked drivers came out was using a 158 series drivers, What i found was these 158 drivers had their own complete uninstaller, whereas later drivers didn't, That's what 1st put on the path to a fix, Can't recall the exact driver offhand, And like yourself i tried about every driver i could find lol (sure it was 158.**) Ciao Def |
Thanks for the help again. One of the things I neglected searching for before was an update to my vid card bios, just didn't even think of it. EVGA actually had a bios update from Jan. 2008. The release notes mentioned improving the fan speed auto sensor and improving compatibility with pcie gen 1 mobos. My p5k-e mobo is pcie 1.1, but who knows, maybe the new bios will help.
If I crash again, I'll try some older drivers and I think I"ll try figuring out how to rollback to an earlier mobo bios too. edit...actually my pcie may actually not be 1.1, I need to get a flashlight and look at the board because my manual doesn't specify and I've seen some posts that say p5k-e isn't pcie1.1...although I thought if I had a pcie16 slot it was 1.1 or later. Dear almighty I hope the bios is the fix. |
Ted,
For what it's worth my abit ip35 pro is pcie 1.0a apparently @ 16x Now i just read this on a forum......... "PCI-E 1.1 is the standard that most people have. All PCI-E 2.0 graphics cards will work in any PCI-E 1.1 slot AFAIK. PCI-E 1.0a is older, and there are compatibility problems with some cards and motherboards. Apparently, most of these problems occur on VIA boards though" Maybe a pcie 1.0a and series 8 card compat problem ?? EDIT: Dang just had a brain fart, Ok hear me out........................ If you find your pcie is 1.0a , What about this for a scenario............It explains why i got 158.** drivers to work with no crash etc on explosions etc etc because these were purely for pcie 1.0a cards Whereas later drivers were made more for 1.1 -> 2.0 slots so something was ommitted, And with the release of the GTX 200 cards nvidia either fixed the problem realising they may be able to get older mobo's working and of course users spending on cards alone without having to upgrade mobo (making it easier for joe public to upgrade a card on its own rather than a card+mobo)) or somewhere in the 177 new drivers they implanted "the fix" (hmm then again some 177's do crash but for me it's ones after 177.26) Dear lord i hope this makes sense Ciao Def |
The p5k-e is pcie 1.1, but it crashed two times already today so I'll give various older driver sets a go I guess.
At some point the 8800GT is going to go flying out the window and get replaced by a ati 4850 or 4870. |
I feel ya pain Ted,
Got me a 4870 delivery monday, Then another in the week hopefully with a nice new x48 mobo and some more watercooling goodies Back on topic ( i'm getting ati-excited lol) Not had a crash with mine so far though still using 177.26's Just something to do with a GT but i can't find anything about the GT having problems :( Will keep looking at forums i visit though ;) I tell you what, I'm glad ati have kind of caught nvidia off-guard with these cards, These new ati cards absolutely rock :) And wait til the 4870x2 comes out woohoo what a beast that's gonna be for the smaller cost compared to what nvidia wheel barrow out lol Ahh well time for sleep (had a few cognacs and i need rest :) ) Ted i have seen the 4850's clock like monkeys on steroids going up trees, Seems the 4870 chips are deffo not cherry picked, Guy on a local forum has sorted the volt mod either pencil or solder and his is rocking like they been injected with adrenalin lol Ciao Def |
I couldn't get the 32bit Vista drivers to install, they give an error halfway through the installation in safe mode and the installer aborts, any ways around this?
I REALLY REALLY REALLY would like to know how to get rid of this damn nvlddmkm.sys problem though I've tried almost every driver release since I first purchased my 8800 last november and this problem keeps poping up fairly frequently, I installed the new 175.19 drivers and they worked fairly decent for about a day, then I get slammed with three nvlddmkm.sys errors in a row on COD4, WiC and SH4. Well regardless this is the last time I buy an Nvidia card for a long while. I hope that class action suit starts up and sues the pants off of Nvidia. So we can all buy ATI cards with the settlement money! |
Hiya,
Only running a lone Vista x64 install now Gimme a few i'll post back after i recheck the 32 bit inf EDIT, You should end up having to install the driver in "normal" mode Boot into safe, Do the biz removing the drivers Reboot and it will come into normal mode and "should" not ask/start vistas own vga driver install, If it does just cancel it Now in normal mode this is when the drivers should go in DL Link for Vista x86 (32bit) .............. http://files.filefront.com/177+26+Vi.../fileinfo.html If that doesn't work unless someone running vista x86 jumps into give advice i'm at a loss as to what to try Let me know if it works, If not i'll remove links :( |
Tronics, I'm a Vista 32 bit user and I have an 8800 GTS card.
Do just like the instructions say...uninstall video card drivers, reboot into safe mode, clean the video card drivers off, reboot into normal mode, and install those awesome 32 bit 177.26 drivers. http://files.filefront.com/177+26+Vi.../fileinfo.html Try, try again. It's worth it. |
Hiya snakeyez,
You still going strong driver-wise ?? If so, Cool :) Just testing my 1st Sapphire 4870 card It's stonkingly good :D Well hope ya still going without lockups ;) |

Explanation: http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/forum/...showtopic=9243 Drivers and Mod INF download page: http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/forum/...howtopic=19001 The 177.26 drivers above are stated as being "ASUS-released" drivers and make no comments about the drivers being "Beta" etc. This seems in synch with Defiance's instructions, but again Defiance makes reference to INF files which he wrote.... Is the Defiance INF file different from the one provided at the Nvision site? |
No i didn't write the .inf's
I just saved some from getting confused and merely added the correct modded .inf into the drivers T'was to stop people coming back with problems when perhaps they had added the wrong .inf Edit: Thus making me try to track down non existant problems if you get my drift Hope this makes sense |
RE: Doolittle81 - Defiance has modded the .inf file already and the download links are the end result, all ready to go.
RE: Defiance - Yes, still going strong with these drivers, still 0 problems with anything! |
