Thank you for your time and help,

dont bother with the mini tweaker anymore, use the "silent 3ditor"

it is 1000 miles ahead of the mini tweaker, no tweak files needed and unlike the limits you have with mini tweaker the 3ditor can open and mod every file.

ps- the reason you saw no change was i bet you forgot to remove the "copy of" file that was created in the folder you were modding. this results in the game not using the file you modded but instead uses the original folder.

Torpedos

Hi Webster,

Thank you for the quick reply and the info. I downloaded the S3d editor as you suggested and installed it. I ran the program and loaded a few of the torpedo files that were listed in the Library section of the game, I was trying to load the file that has to do with the Mark 16, I couldn't find them. It looks like I will need to spend some time with this program to find what I am looking for and then figuring out how to make changes.
Any other suggestions?
When I used the mini tweaker to make changes, I used the files that came with the program. Where are the "copy of" files located?

Darrell

its in the same folder as the file you changed, if you changed torpedo.zon then in the same folder you will find a "copy of torpedo.zon" file

up on your windows toolbar click on views/ organize by name and it makes them easier to find

if i were you i would go back and check all your files you messed with because you probably have several "copy of" files, it makes one anytime and every time you make a change with mini tweaker.

as for the 3ditor, it takes a little getting used to but ignore all the node this and node that and click each one and look in the window on the right to see what it is. after a while you will get used to where to find things.

now lets open the mymod folder and put in a readme using
notepad this isnt a release readme this is a breadcrumbs
readme its not mandatory but its a good idea.

Next were going to sort of explore file structures and how
they work a bit. But rather than learning by wrote
We are going to learn about them by doing.
So were first going to give ourselves a raise.

I've just started playin around with the tut in post#2 (thanks Mush) and noticed what appears to be an omission? it says we're gonna put in a readme but doesn't mention at all how.:hmmm:

sorry, I know its probably something blindingly obvious and simple but I'm completely new to the idea of modding and wanna make sure I do it right.

Very nice project here.

I am not new to Modding but I have not done much in quite a while. A new computer got me playing Silent Hunter IV again and now I am upgrading my Sub a bit.

I have successfully increased it's speed which was rather pleasant to get working. So now I am looking for more things that I can do with it. Someone around here did a +25% torp damage mod which I am using but that is the only thing beyond the plain 1.4 version of SHIV I have.

Looking forward to sharing what I have learned and picking up some new ideas as well.

I take it Mush Martin has lost interest? If there are any other modders out there who would like to pick up the gauntlet, it think it would be much appreciated. :ping:

Create a folder and name it Support.
Create a new txt document and name it as you wish.
Place it in the Support folder and edit it with your information.
It's good to go then.
DON'T create a folder named documentation with anything in it.
It won't work. (At lest mine isn't working)

Thanks for starting that topic.

*cough* *cough* BUMP *cough* : )

Wouldn't it be nice to get this fired up again - by anyone - if MM has no interest.

Happy Hunting!

aanker 02-06-15 01:24 PM

Thanks thegrindre, I'm also hoping this topic gets going again someday - so many moved to SH5 & SH3 that this is in POW status..... lol

beating my head against the wall.

i am by virtue a foolish man on occasion. however i am hammering at this issue and have yet found no logical conclusion. How does one increase the power of engines to a particular submarine, simply increasing the speed maximums has had no effect for me.

any help is greatly appreciated

That info is stored in the .sim file. Use Silent 3ditor to open and modify.
