:cry: It was worth a shot, appears to be a difference between the 7 and 8 series cards. |
I agree with "vertical synchro" on, is better, and even with my CRT monitor. Who really needs more than 75/85 Fps in game ?
About black Artefacts in sky and mod spoken by Samwolf, i said in another post : " I'm trying the mod you spoke above, Samwolf. And for the moment, this is so far so good, for the brighter nights !! Thanks. I don't see real things different with these files except the brighter night, so it's great. Unfortunately, this doesn't cure the black artifacts seen in sky for the 8800 cards. I still have them. This thing is really a mistery. " I remember have tried 8Km GWX, and stil have those strange artefacts. But in a very, very low amount, but still there .. It seems there is no such artefacts in looking in periscope, or UZO :hmm:. Strange ! And i say again, with my ati rig, no such artefacts :hmm: |

Reporting back:
Samwolf's solution did not work in my case. (Although I certainly appreciate the attempt.) The black triangles are about 2-3 times larger in size with the 16k mod (in my case.) I am going to stick with the 8k version and just put up with it. My initial sense is that the video synchronization does reduce the flickering somewhat - and it doesn't perceptibly slow my system. One thing someone mentioned that puzzles me -- why should this flaw in the skyline occur with the "naked eye" and not when using any of the ocular enhancements? Anyone? |
I think I got the solution.
By opening scene.dat with the MiniTweaker, the last value is Horizon = 2000. I increased it to 3000 and this got rid of the artifacts, at least in my case. |
I had the black flashes on my new ATI 3870 cards using drivers 7.11. When I upgraded to drivers 7.12, it all went away (and this is using both the GWX's and my own 16km mods).:up: :up: :up: With my mod, you can actually see up to 17km before the ships disappear.

@dcb
I do not see that entry in Mini tweaker. Could you post a screen shot? |

Meanwhile, check this thread, post no. 29 by Reece. This explains that the Horizon variable sets the distance at which the game renders the horizon. With Horizon = 3000, the horizon line puts the black artefacts at 24 kms in theory, but too far for the game to render them actually, so this is why we cannot see them any more. http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/show...t=horizon+2000 |
PM sent.

Got it all thanks.
I see now why I was a bit confussed. It's in the EnvData chunk and is actually one of the Camera settings. I'll adjust several of my installs and see if I can varify your fix. Again, Thanks!! :up: Oh, and are you using the 16k mod? |
I'd say that's a close start! :up:
16k mod hammers my system but I got no black thingys. using the stock 8k I adjusted from 1000 to 2000 and they were gone, but there were side effects. Try adjusting from 2000 up in smaller scales. Say from 2000 to 2100 and so forth. A 1/3 rd jump is quit a bit!! |

Yes, I'm using the 16 km mod and this solved the problem without giving me any side-effect even with Horizon = 3000. But I have a pretty strong system, able to cope even with the skydome at 24 kms:oops: (no bragging here, just a fact). |
I do not find a variable Horizon in the scene.dat.txt. So i seem to have a different version. Can somebody PM me the correct tweak-file?
