Digital_Trucker: It's not that easy, I'm afraid. That way, you're actually keeping the HUD color and layout of RFB, and only the buttons from Metal Hud. Or I might be talking out of my exhaust pipe, once again :p I'll try out your solution as well.

ETA: You've got to stop editing your posts when I'm typing my reply...you're confuzzling me! :D

Sorry about the editing thing. I realized I left out an important step and wanted to get it in there before anyone read it.

That method is the same as I used to do a workaround for Jakes mod and my Mess Hall Sink Mod combo. Evidently there must have been some miscommunication regarding it, or noone noticed the differences. I believe that the only change that needs to be made to the cfg file is to change the line that says

ButtonIconImage=HUD.tga to ButtonIconImage=HUD1.tga

That should keep the button icons from RFB, but make all the other changes.

My apologies for any problems. Guess I'm getting old faster than I thought.:oops:

This will give you the button icons from RFB, but everything else from Jakes mod when you enable it and return you to stock RFB whenever you disable it. As usual, use at your own risk.

Cool - thanks - I'll give that a try. Sorry to hear Jake's under the weather, and I appreciate your stepping up in his absence here. Once I get this last bit of tweaking done, I might just actually get out of port for a day or two before Leo issues more ROW updates :lol:

[EDIT] - OOPS - slight hitch here - when I went to look at the RFB mod files to get the HUD,dds like you said above, I found two other HUD tga files in there too (HUD.tga and HUD_AdversarialMode.tga) - I guess I'll try your suggestion with just the HUD.dds file anyway, but do you have any idea what these .tga files do and whether I might need them too?

Digital_Trucker 11-10-07 02:34 PM

Just checked my game

and the second post I made is accurate. Just change the one instance of hud.tga to hud1.tga and you should have what you are looking for.

I don't know why the cfg file references the .tga file but uses the .dds file. I don't have any changes made to the .tga files in my game and I still get my custom button icons and jakes metal hud. I think the game uses the .dds file no matter what, so you shouldn't have to mess with any of the .tga files.

Let us know how it works out.

Edit: If you don't play multiplayer, then the HUD_AdversarialMode.tga won't need any changing. I don't think Jakes mod changes that one either.

panthercules 11-10-07 02:41 PM

Fascinating - your suggestion worked, to a degree (I noticed that there were no references to HUD.dds in the RFB orderbar.cfg file - only references were to the .tga file, so I renamed and moved it in as well along with the renamed RFB HUD.dds. There were about 3 or 4 references to the HUD.tga in that orderbar.cfg file, so I changed them all. This is what I got:

http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y96...iny-RFBHUD.jpg

Not exactly what I was looking for, but close. Now I may have to check out the graybar version of Jake's work to see if that would go better with the old/RFB order bar portion. Ultimately, I'd still like to have the full-blown version of Jake's work that just doesn't mess with the actual order buttons but changes all the areas around them, but I don't know if that's possible.

And as long as I'm making my wish list here, I'd just as soon stick with the green indicators on the buttons and the fuel/battery etc, indicators, rather than the blue, in case that's something that's an easy tweak to revert to (I figured that the buttons might have to stay green anyway if the Jake work was going to leave the buttons alone, but also I kinda like the green/red color scheme better anyway - looks more like the dive board Christmas tree and other similar indicators, which seems more realistic/natural to me for some reason).

panthercules 11-10-07 03:09 PM

Well, the hybrid approach using the Graybars version of Jake's mod looks pretty decent (better that the other one, I think):

It will certainly do until somebody figures out if a combo with RFB buttons and Jaketoox everything else can be made to work. Thanks for the tips :up:

Digital_Trucker 11-10-07 03:30 PM

Panthercules, did you read the second post?

Check this post http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/show...1&postcount=47 . If you only change the one entry, then you should end up with what you were looking for. Only change the ButtonIconImage line. Sorry for the confusion.

Fearless 11-10-07 06:41 PM

Is there a way I can get the button icons when using the All-in-one-Orders Bar mod from NefariousKoel?

Button Icons missing are:

On Navigation Map Station - Report time to turn and Report Range to Course End;
On the Periscope Station - Identify Target;
On the Bridge Station - Report Nearest Visual Contact and Report Weather;
On the Sonar Station - Follow Nearest Warship Contact and Normal Sweep.

leovampire 11-10-07 06:53 PM

BTW Fearless to answer your question yes

Jaketoox took the HUD from Jimimadrid's work that I liked and then applied his modifications to it for me and my game the way I asked him to with the yellow battery fuel bar and more.

As far as I know Jake did get permission from Jim to use his work like that but I guess he just hasn't released it to the public yet.

He was doing a lot of work for the ROW mod for us and for the time being I guess he stoped going further with this.

I will send him a PM and let him know others are interested in it and see if he will post it for a download.

I have a lot of custom stuff from people. Like Sober combined his Bridge Telegraph and Compus work to the other stuff Jaketoox did for me. As you will see bellow.

There are also now black radar masts too instead of that light gray color.

Fearless

The same procedure I described above (as ammended in the second post) will accomplish what you are looking for. It does require a little bit of file manipulation and editing one line of a .cfg file.

I'll restate the procedure to make up for the earlier confusion.

Let's say that we have two mods. We'll call them Mod A and Jakes mod. Mod A (RFB, TM, All-in-one-orders-bar) has buttons that aren't in the stock command bar. You want to use Jakes interface graphics but still have the commands and button icons that are in Mod A. For the rest of this discussion, wherever you see [Mod A] substitute the name of the folder that contains Mod A. Wherever you see [Jakes mod], substitute the name of the folder that contains Jakes interface mod. Wherever you see blahblahblah substitute the name of the folder that you installed your game to.

First, deactivate the mod you want to keep the icons from (RFB, TM, All-in-one-orders bar-[called Mod A]) and deactivate Jake's mod (if it was already activated).

Copy the blahblahblah\MODS\[ModA]\Data\Menu\Gui\Layout\HUD.dds file to any place you want.

Rename that file to HUD1.DDS

Move that file into the blahblahblah\[Jakes mod]\Data\Menu\Gui\Layout folder.

Create a folder named cfg in the blahblahblah\MODS\[Jakes mod]\Data\Menu folder.

Copy the blahblahblah\MODS\[ModA]\Data\Menu\cfg\OrdersBar.cfg file into the blahblahblah\MODS\[Jakes mod]\Data\Menu\cfg folder.

Open the blahblahblah\MODS\[Jakes mod]\Data\Menu\cfg\OrdersBar.cfg file up with notebook or any text editor and change the line that says ButtonIconImage=HUD.tga to ButtonIconImage=HUD1.tga

Activate "Mod A"
Activate Jakes mod

When you have both activated, you will have Jakes interface graphics and the icons for the commands in "Mod A"

When Jakes mod is deactivated you will have the original interface graphics from "Mod A" and it's control button icons.

You probably should call Jakes mod something like Jakes mod for Mod A since it should be used in conjunction with Mod A.

No, I'd missed that one somehow - that worked perfectly to change just that one line instead of all 4 like I did before. Now, just gotta go check the ROW post to make sure I haven't missed an update from Leo, and then it'll finally be time to put out to sea - thanks for the help :up:

Digital_Trucker 11-11-07 10:01 AM

Glad you got it sea-worthy, Panthercules:up:

I should never try to do anything quickly, my old brain cells ain't what they used to be (in quantity or quality):cry: , otherwise, there would have been no need for a second post.

DrBeast 11-11-07 11:27 AM

The woes of not having internet at home: you keep reinventing the wheel! :damn:

Anyway, I went with the .dds manipulation approach, and produced a Jake metal HUD (all the colors) with CaptainCox's buttons layout from Search Pattern Mod (again, not sure which one RFB uses, the one I used as reference is found here). You will need the OrdersBar.cfg and menu.txt files from that mod for the "hybrid" to work...

...and I just remembered what I had forgotten to do: take screenshots of my work! :damn:

Anyway, if things don't work out for you I'll upload it, with screenshots AND proper instructions (that's a note-to-self, really)

ETA: well, you can scratch all of the above. I checked out RFB, and it looks like I'll have to download that mod to gain access to the HUD it's using...

DrBeast 11-11-07 12:09 PM

Ok, done an RFB-friendly version of Metalhud (both versions). You'll retain all the colors of Metalhud mod, with all the buttons from RFB. If anyone's interested, I'll upload or send to Jake so he can publish it...if the RFB crew is ok with that, that is.

leovampire 11-11-07 03:53 PM

I think the reason why Jake didn't do it

Is because he wanted permission from both Captain Cox and Berry first.
