I'll tell you what, I just completed my 3rd patrol in the S class. I did all my assigned areas. Sunk the tonnage. Radioed in TF. You know, one man wrecking ball. I figured after three patrols in the pig boat I would get new construction. No dice....patrol 4 in the pig boat. I long for the big brother fleet submarine. I hope this is my last patrol in this little stinker. She has been fun though.

Personally I still like my Barracuda class from SH1 but for a boat that most of you may have driven I would have to say Balao class (Still wish I could make it into a U-FlaK )

Got to admit I like the "Balao" class better than all the rest and have one in present Feb.1944 career
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y11...esentBalao.jpg But oh look out in the very near "PT Boats" future as I'm gonna get this one. http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y116/oleman/PTBoat.jpg |
Gato Class. With subs like Wahoo, Harder, and Barb they have a true fighting history. But I am also partile to the S-Boats.

Gimme a "Balao"
Fully tricked out, loaded for bear, all the bells, whistles and extras. Hell, pimp that sucker out. Give me a big picture window up front, maybe those oh-so cool Tail Fins just like the "Seaview". I'd even like the Flying Mini-sub, but that might be asking for a bit too much. . |
SS 210 USS Grenadier My Current Boat a Gar (Tambor) Class. Thru thick and Thin Its brought me home

Gotta say, for asiatic fleet ops, its either the Salmon or S-boats.. As for COMSUBPAC operating out of Pearl Harbor, it's split between the Balau (USS-Blackfin at the moment:up: ) and the Porpoise (in another life time, lurking in the deep waters is the USS Shark)
Balaus are excellent as they're big enough to be stable on the surface, and yet submerged, they're still quick enough and are able to dive deep enough, as for Porpoises, they're a training boat.. cant beat that:up: With Regards, Krauter |
Well, so far the Porpoise... haven't tried anything else yet though :rotfl:
But that low profile feels great. A Gato looks like the Eiffel Tower at sea  |
I've sailed the Porpoise class until the Capt. decided to go for a TF in the Shallows. After that I've started a new career with the S class and boy is this fun. Just need to remember I don't have AA and all's well.
Forgot I didn't have AA just once, never finished the patrol I was sent to (cause of damage) but she got us home... just to get a letter saying "nice job of getting the crew home but never ever do that again" She even gave me a carrier, put 4 torp's in her and the last torpedo hit the stern which literally blew all the props off of her (nice big hole at the stern), had plenty of time reloading after the destroyers gave up on me to put her to rest. I miss the 'six tubers' but I can wait it out until then. |
I enjoy the Balao class. It is basically the only boat I have used and it keeps getting me home. It just grows on you. :)

Well I would vote but the Narwhal is not on the list:D

Rude, Crude, and Socially Unacceptable, I LOVE MY S-BOAT.
They were obsolete by the start of the War, underarmed and shallow dive depth. They are also a REAL challenge! http://i204.photobucket.com/albums/b...33OnPatrol.jpg Run Silent, Run (not so) Deep. |
