So I say: take Fast Attack as a basis and work from there. I'll happily provide the scenarios :)

sh5, HAVE ALL SUBS FROM WW2 IN ONE GAME, HAVE A LOT OF SHIPS TO SINK USING SEVERAL TYPES OF TORPS LIKE THE LONG PANTS.

My thoughts on this have been settled for QUITE some time.

Silent Hunter 5 has a small nitch it can cover with the 50's Sub simulation being totally nonused.

Im thinking give a few years for the postwar era stuff to go then suddenly in 1952 a conflict starts in the pacific or atlantic and a massive naval conventional war ensues between the United States and Soviet Union.
So between 1952 and 1958 you have this conflict that uses newly captured or developed technologies in a deadly war to deny access to the sea.

Light Submarine combat with the use of new homing torpedoes that may or may not work.

Light missile use. Mostly against aircraft.

Soviet XXI conversions such as Whiskey and Zulu for early war

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Whiskey_class_submarine
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zulu_class_submarine

For the Americans you have your choice of GUPPY classes for early war leading to better designed subs later on.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greater..._Power_Program

By 1955 I think its safe to start seeing large number of teardrop shape submarines to start the hunt. Such as http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Barbel_%28SS-580%29

-----------

The point of this is to still be able to basicly maintain the art of Silent Hunter and yet change the style somewhat without going to Nuke powered monsters with uber missiles and Mach 1 torpedoes. You can hunt other submarines underwater and try to engage with homing torpedoes.. etc.

Hmm, now thats promising.....:hmm:

74 boats lost out of 206 in service, 3,142 men killed (one in three of all who served) plus 359 captured. 2 million tons sunk, 38 enemy subs and 40 major surface warships sunk. More hits per torpedo fired than any other navy. Hardly a minor combatant Steve. No offence taken, just setting the record straight.

Being reasonble doesn't always mean being right. I read Padfield's book, and while he told a lot of stories and included a lot of numbers, it didn't seem to be that major comparatively. Personally, I'd love to play in any country's boats. We need more add-ons.

Thanks for great defense; I'll try to be better informed next time.:sunny:

No problem, shipmate.:arrgh!:

Submariners, of any nationality, are brave men and therefore worthy of simulation.

As I said, no offence was taken as I am sure none was implied, I just wanted to put the RN's contribution into perspective.

I also wanted to make a pitch for a Brit SH5. I really want to shoot up trains. (Check my profile).

No offense but whats with you guys?

A big topic moaning about SH4 not being the Germans again before and now im seeing this?

I mean isn't RUB or GWX good enough? How about letting SH take a new turn to explore totally uncharted times such as my idea above or a little 60's war?

I can understand the like of U-boats but this is starting to get weird. Are we gonna go back and forth till we have SH30 WW2 complete edition?

Modern subs? Cold war subs?
Too boring in my opinion.

-Soviet sub detected, sir!
-Ah, call the White House and ask what to do, we don't want to start WWIII here!

Just like ''The Hunt for Red October'' (very nice film by the way)

Seeing there has been some much wrong with SH4 and the comments everyone has had about it..... you will never see a SH5 sim. Especially from Ubi. Dream all you want, it won't happen.

STEED 05-28-07 04:53 PM

SH5 should cover us Brits and Japan as we both would come after Germany and America.

I'm not too interested in playing scripted missions, either, which is what a cold war sim would have to be. Anyway, we have DW, so we can see already how a cold war sim would be. Aside from a graphics update, DW pretty much has it all. Find da sub, follow da sub with your sensors. *Yawn* And this coming from someone who likes DW. But, let's face it, the gameplay is pretty much one-dimensional, due to the inherently scripted nature of the missions. That's not DW's fault. They just don't have an entire war they are able to model and incorporate into the gameplay. And anything you come up with as far as modern sub sims goes would necessarily border on science fiction. Nothing wrong with that, either. I rather like science fiction. But the SH franchise has concentrated on WWII so let's keep that going.

Modern subs have their place. But not in SH.

And if anyone thinks WWII Battle of the Atlantic is all played out...well, they either haven't read their history, don't realize how much more detail can be modeled in controlling u-boats (including weapons, stalking, immersion, etc) with the computing power now available to us, or both.

I vote u-boats. Not that anyone in any business capacity is listening to our votes, of course....

This is their mistake! If I had a company I would ask people ''what do you want us to produce?'' and I would produce whatever they were saying me! This would make me rich!:D
Other companies would also follow my steps, or they would close very soon.
