It is OK. You maxed out the sound though and it is completely distorted. It goes off the scale even into complete distortion. A wav analyzer shows it as being so loud, that it fills the entire screen with the sound itself instead of being able to read the wav. Let me see if I can find the original sound and correct it.

This is what I mean. This is your sound file - it is off the scale:

Here is what the original sound looks like if you do a direct transfer from QT or Real to an actual WAV non modified:

Notice how clean that is?

Anyway, I converted the mov file to the actual wav. It has about the same signal strength as the original SHIV file it is replacing.

By the way, good find on these real diesel sounds. It is a nice addition to my game!

PS. I'll rip out the sound unmodified and upload it somewhere.

You can still clearly distinguish at flank the rythmic push/lift of the valves when the cam does its full turn.:hmm:
Not to nit-pick, but you do know Fairbanks Morse Opposed Piston engines don't have valves right? They just have ports that open when the piston moves back far enough to expose them. The lack of a valvetrain (coupled with forced induction) is what makes these 2-strokes so efficient.

As for the clattering sound, I'm not sure what actually causes it...

I'm not sure either, but the new diesel engines they are using in the Dodge Rams still sound just like my old S-Boat. :rotfl:

The "clattering" sound is the fuel exploding.

S-Boat Diesel Sound

Speaking of S-Boats and Diesel sound, does anyone know where I can get that 'old' diesel sound that was around about Trigger Maru 1.2 or earlier? That particular engine really gave the S-Boats a 'funky' sound that fit them very well. Of course, the funky sound didn't fit the newer boats, and the globalized engine sound replaced it.

When I start my new career after upgrading to patch 1.4/TM 1.7.2, I would also like to enable the sound patch just for the S-Boat I will probably be starting out with. When I get 'promoted' to a newer boat, I could just disable that particular sound mod to use the newer engines in newer boats.
