Yesterday night. My female cohabitant was going to sleep, looked at me playing and asked: "Are there any sounds in your game or is it really silent, as the name says?" (I've always used the phones). "Oh yes, there are some, indeed. Come, have a look" and passed the headphones to her yawning with eyes almost closed. "Ready?" I asked, "Yes". And I pressed the C button. :rotfl:

Madness, men...

Oh. You do realize he was making a joke, right? Sometimes a play on words gets lost in translation.

No doubt about it. a great film and the benchmark of "uboat films" in my opinion. But what was THE uboat film before Das Boot, any thoughts on that?

Operation Petticoat ?

Cheers,

There is none....Das Boot is the best we will get in this life time. For me, that is just fine as Das Boot is the finest representation of the uboat and what it was used for in WW2. Sure, it does not go into BDU, Doenitz and strategy but the story line is really about the men and their boats. This storyline is done very well.

I'd say "The Enemy Below"

Iron Budokan 02-09-07 07:27 PM

Yeah, The Enemy Below would be my pick, too, come to think of it.

This too is a good movie. To bad the time it was made that the CG effects was not around. The actors were great as well. What separates this movie from Das Boot is watching Das Boot with German speaking and subtitles brings it all together. If you watch it with English dubbing, it kind of looses that realism and punch of the situation that they were put into. As far as drama that grabs you, holding your attention, Das Boot does it for me. Perhaps because The Enemy Below was a Hollywood creation where as Das Boot a European creation. I find the mind set of directers in comparison is quite different thus providing a different feel to movies. All in all, these two movies are in my stack of movies. I also have Run Silent, Run Deep. Although in the PTO, this too is a good movie with great actors. Again, if CG effects were part of this movie, it would have been better. If you do get a chance to watch Run Silent Run Deep, watch for the strings pulling the torpedos and submarines under the water. It is quite comical but it was all they had at the time.

Definitely! No other way to watch it (well there is, German with no subtitles).

Here's a bit of triva: Originally filmed in German, all of the major actors could speak English. When the movie was dubbed into English for USA and UK distribution, all of the principal actors actually dubbed their own voices into English.

Myxale 02-10-07 06:42 AM

Its a annoying thing really.
Whenever one dubb's a movie in whatever language it looses it's puch.

This is why i like of originals!:hmm:
