Dudtorpedo ,

If ur forced to save the game for any RL activity. remember to minimanisize the risk of getting this bug.

*Dont save while beeing attacked by any Anti Submarine vessel (DD's , Planes)
*Dont save while any other ships are around you (this causes a ships to act weird when you reload the game)
*Dont save while in very bad wheater.
*Dont save while beeing submerged (mostly this causes a bug that pulls the sub down at a supernatural speed)

save the game on surface in the open seas, this will minimalisize the risk of any mayor Save / Load bugs.

Give it a try

Ty for the tips

I´m sure others with the same problems will find them usefull. To all who can create mods: PLEASE create a mod that includes some radio traffic and above all WOLFPACKS.
I saw an american 1943 sub movie a few days ago, and i was surprised to hear that the american subs formed wolfpacks aswell. Wonder where they got that idea... Would be great with a subsim set in the pacific. This is Dudtorpedo--signing off.

2) Silent Hunter, while not perfect, was most certainly not a piece of crap on release. It is indicative, I guess, of the mindset of some peole that they want everything exactly the way they feel it should be, and are not prepared to make allowances for any other factor. They want the developers to live up to an impossible standard... one which they, apparently, don't adhere to themselves.

3) While the modifications that have been made to SH3 by the community are fantastic, have have certainly iproved the experience, it is disingenuous to imply that the game was not worth playing before they came out. More and more I see posts that imply that the only thing that makes SH3 worthwhile are the mods. This is not only incorrect, but insulting to the developers.

SH3 is a ground breaking simulation in many ways... and was right out of the box. The depth of gameplay far surpasses anything that has come before... including Aces of the Deep. Was it perfect? Nope. Would the developers liked more time to add some features to it? No doubt. But to imply that, in many many ways, it wasn't the most sophisticated WW2 Subsim ever made right out of the box is just plain foolish.

JCC

I also used to defend SHIII with everything I had agaisnt the attacks coming from all sides upon it's release!

But then time went on, I got to know this game and realised that I paid 60$, and a certain amount of standard was expected.
Those who point out some faults have a right to, might even make things better with the next release, the devs do listen to what simmers want (I think).

Personaly I can't defend anymore the fact that this sim doesn't have dynamic radio communications and wolfpacks. Features that make all the difference for a U-boat sim.

And I'm not so sure SHIII is so ground breaking in depth of play and ''far surpasses'' anything before it.
Some might say that the simple fact that AOD has dynamic radio communications and AI U-boats/wolfpacks makes the depth of play better then SHIII.
Don't forget gameplay is more important then graphics, at least it is for me.

Same here, i hate games that look "nice" but are shallow, too quick to complete and have no replay value.

Pants, these two mods are not 'dynamic'. Meaning they are basicaly just eye candy, with no real interaction with you and your U-boat.

This is good place Too !!

This is a great place to let of some fustrations . I would hope that you would consider using some of the mods and also Patch your stock game befoe you add these mods . I dont seem to have these problems and I save while submerged and in a few yards of contacts . I dont ever save during a destroyer run .. Sometimes this games makes my nerves swell because , its desinged to make for you to make descisons . Like a real u-boat captain , make some bad ones and your dead . So far Ima on my 7th patrol with the same capatain . I have passed the 3 mark . Seems after the 3 rd patrol I have been sunk more than ten times . I know now how to handle destroyers and have killed 11 since using this same captain . I suggets you try NYGM Mod and Or GRet wolfs , But take a break and understand that killing dots in the sky is no fun , especially when you have no team mates to cordinate attacks with In IL2 . This sim is for the Captain in you that will use experance and great desicion making . So try again .. I love this game . I have stopped flying because of it !!! I hate DOTS , But I can see Cargo ships and tankers which are my favorites to kill

SH3 easily causes crashes - at least on some PCs -, so in order to avoid unnecessary frustration you can do the following:

1. Before starting SH3 open the task manager (press "Ctrl-Alt-Del") and look for programmes that might disturb SH3:
"soundman.exe"
and any "Devupdate" or "Winupdate" tasks seem to occasionally cause crashes, so stop them.

2. Make sure you shut down all Firewalls, Antispy and Antivirus software

1. -Install SH3 - clean install
- apply the 1.4b patch
- install one of the main mods, GW 1.1a, IuB, NYCM or similar ones...
OR wait for GWX!

4. Enjoy! (Make sure you do steps one and two each time before starting the game!)

Cheers, AS

WOOT!

I resurrected that corrupt saved game file!

I booted back into Windows, ran SH3Weather (it had been set to September, changed it back to July), then fired up SH3Commander. Once in SH3, I loaded the previously corrupted game with no problems at all.

Now, I don't know whether this has anything to do with me changing the weather, or just loading up the corrupt save game, then saving again (with a different save name), then rebooting, changing the weather, and loading up the original corrupt name.

Either way, it worked, and we've at least got a hope of fixing corrupted save games.

I'm so new the ink is hardly dry on my enlistment contract. I have been on ONE patrol for weeks now, trying to learn the approach, 'scope work, and torpedo set up stuff... And I have been returning to the same 'save point' in the patrol... time after time after time [vessel and smoke JUST visible from the Conn]. Never a glitch...

SH3 / 1.4b / GW
