My son took this pic tonight. A quick voyage around Knipper (aka Peter): Born in Aston, Birmingham (UK) 1951. Left school with no qualifications, joined BT (GPO it was then) as an apprentice telecoms engineer 1967. Became a hippy, took loads of drugs, went to rock festivals & gigs, near killed myself on a Triumph 6T Thunderbird at 19 while on acid, left BT 1976, did an Hons degree in Moral and Social Philosophy Kingston-on-Hull), 1979 went to live in South of France (Antibes area) working in caravan sites/bars, did some sign/boat writing. Returned UK circa 1982, worked as cartoonist in London, bought ZX81, learned hex, moved to Bath, worked in joinery shop. 1985 set up photo gallery/darkroom, met wife, stopped taking (most) drugs. 1987 became Bath community arts officer, 1989 got job as telecoms journalist, 1993 had son :D :D :D . 1996 went freelance for 8 years then got a job with a major technology publisher. Anyone interested in operational support systems for all-IP, next-generation telecoms networks? No, I thought not. Don't blame you either. It's tedious stuff, but it pays the bills. 2005 got married (same person - long engagement. You have to be sure about these things). Found this forum 12 months ago via Google after buying SH2 and failing to get it to work (it kept crashing). Still didn't get it to work. tried sporradically to get it to work without success. Bought SH3, that didn't work either. Kept trying. Looking in here, I realised graphics card was a big issue. Bought a half-gig ATI something or other a couple of months ago and the rest, as they say, is history. Well, the sim is about history of course. I knew that. But you know what I mean.:D Main interest is modern history, in particular the British in India (anyone read William Dalrymple?) and European history from mid-19th century to the present. WWI & II in particular. Also, the British involvement in Ireland, year dot to the present. I guess the common theme is imperialism/fascism. My father served all but the last bit of WWII at Biggin Hill, so I guess that's where the interest started. After a few unfortunate experiences in chatrooms and BBS (my best mate ran off with a woman from Texas he met in pogo.com and a paedophile tried to groom me) Since then, I've been looking for a virtual table to put my feet under and I sincerely hope this is it. Signs are good, you folks seems kind, helpful and understanding, and of course we're all into subsimming. Fave films & books are too diverse to list but anything slightly sleazy (Cabaret, Pink Flamingo's for example) or to do with modern history is fine by me. I can be a bit irksome sometimes I know, I also suffer from foot and mouth disease on occasion, but I don't mean anything nasty by it. I just get carried away. The problem is with this medium, people can't see you laughing as you type, so sometimes they don't know you're joking. Anyhow I figure I'm going to be into subsimming for a considerable time to come and I would welcome your collective company for the duration. I hope it turns out to be mutual. SINK 'EM ALL! :arrgh!: |
Very nice, Knipper. Welcome to Subsim! (again)
You remind me vaguely of Ian McKellen  |
