Well, to quote Blackadder:
"It started badly, it tailed off a little in the middle and the less said about the end the better — but apart from that it was excellent."

SPOILERS AHEAD MR CYBERMAT!!

I think that's enough space...

The interaction between the Master and the Doctor was quite nice, with the Master offering the army to him, just wanting to be accepted...although to be honest it was just pandering to Doctor/Master slash fans...which is a pretty large demographic in the Who fandom so I guess he can't go wrong there.

The ending was traditionally push-button, and I'd have expected nothing less to be honest. Big build up, kill off a liked character to make the bad person seem more bad and then hand wave the ending. It was a bit corny to do it for the day next to Remembrance Sunday too...a bit obvious really with Dannys speach...but...as corny as it was, it was quite good. I did like that.

Then...of course...there's Santa Clause...

I'm...I'm not even going to go there...really... Not even sure I want to watch the Christmas episode now if I'm honest... :nope:

Total and utter dribble from start to finish.

Roll on 4pm so I can watch a real good Dr Who Cyberman story from the classic ere.

I'm surprised right wingers aren't coming out of the woodworks because

Missy kissed Doctor and Missy was two times a man before

Steven Moffat plays down Doctor Who ratings fall
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-30018190

Nothing to do with the actors at all, more like the dreadful story lines this year so here is some advice.

1. Stronger better story lines are needed.
2. Sod the companion(s) back story lines who cares, its called Dr Who!
3. Tone down the SFX.
4. Give the Cybermen and Daleks a break of two to three years.
5. Beef up the Xmas specials they really are poor.

Jimbuna 11-12-14 10:36 AM

The ratings (whichever spin you put on them) are seldom wrong.

Can't disagree, I'd say keep the companions backstory but don't make it the main thing, I think Rose had the perfect balance for that, her mother and Mickey appeared from time to time, but they weren't a part of every episode or a main plotline.
Definitely give the Cybermen and Daleks (and the Weeping Angels too) a break, looking at the Zygons and Ice Warriors again might not be a bad idea, there's also the option of the Silurians. That's just a few that have been brought back more recently, there's a whole host of aliens that can be used that have been in the old stories, the Draconians for one.
Don't bring back the Master/Missy again for a few seasons, that was a cul-de-sac of a storyline really and the Master has been turned from a scheming villain (who admittedly was always foiled) into a complete psychopath with over the top acting, even John Sim was guilty of that. They really should have kept Jacobi as the Master for a bit, he could have done justice to it with proper malice, but he probably cost more than the Doctor Who department of the BBC could afford over a long period. Another alternative actor to use for the Master would be Charles Dance, he's just been freed up from Game of Thrones so he's on the market and would make a good Delgado style Master and take the character back to the devious genius Moriarty to the Doctors Sherlock as he was originally intended, not some crazy psychopath who also happens to be a genius.
If you want to have a strong female villain, then go for the Rani, lots of potential to be tapped with that villain, and a fairly clean slate to do it from. I don't think she's even been mentioned since Sylvester McCoy so lots of free space to work with there.
Gallifrey...you're going to have to go there at some point in the next season or people are going to lose interest. You've teased it since the Day of the Doctor, and now that the Master/Missy has somehow reappeared then you're going to have to eventually have the Doctor find it...and then you're going to have to deal with the fact that the Timelord High Council who wanted to end Time has been unleashed into the universe again...perhaps having the Master eat the High Council after he drove them back into the Time lock at the end of 'The End of Time' might help remove the Council and put some more sane people in charge of Gallifrey.
Then, perhaps, if you really want to, you can have a Dalek vs Timelords episode...but give us a bit of Davros action too, it's only fair.

Rhodes 11-12-14 11:22 AM

I endorse Oberon as the main script writer for the next seasons of the show!

STEED 11-12-14 12:52 PM

Forgot about those blasted angles yea I agree.

The Master has gone OTT without question and now a sex change! Give him her what ever the master is a season off.

Bring back the Yeti and the Black Guardian & White Guardian

And if you have a Dalek story please lets see Davros up against the Movellans.

Grand final the Time Lords return but so dose a ancient enemy they battled the Giant Vampires.

As you can see a touch of classic Dr Who in my ideas. :)

I mostly agree, though I'm not sure about toning down the special effects - they may seem unnecessary to old Dr Who fans, but to youngsters brought up on Hollywood productions, they are probably necessary, and there have been some good examples in the latest episodes. What is needed though is for the effects to fit in with the story line, rather than be thrown in as an afterthought - the dinosaur roaming around Victorian London seemed to be added just because they could, rather than for any obvious reason.
