I'm just South of Kwajalein, and Crash Dived for about the 8th time this day, and it's not quite 1330 Pearl time... - I'm over a day's journey from my "rendezvous" for further instructions, so I'll probably be after 1100 hours EDST tomorrow ( :har: ) before I get back to this, and then head on over toward the East China Sea, and shoot at something in the Philippine Sea, if not before... I've only found one vessel thus far, and it was anchored in very shallow water, too far to shoot at safely and get away from these pesky flyboys... What I wanna know, is who put all these planes in here?... :har:

Little side note (aka: tidbit of information) for FotRSU playing... RR uses like a 6nm circle for his popuppendown game, but I've started using a 10.2nm circle, so that I'm under and not seen by the buggabooze, and then I come up after 20, and can usually get about another 30 in on the surface... makes for a long day, but I haven't been seen yet... at least, I don't ~think~ I have... no bomb drops, no little sub chasers yet knock-on-wood... Good night! :salute:

Edit: 1015 hours next day... OK, mark bonamer, while I haven't made it to the Philippine Sea yet, I am Northeast of Truk on my way from the Marshalls, traveling on about a 290 course, and now have 2 small merchants to my credit, both sunk with a single stern tube shot... Now, if I needed them to sink with one shot, they would not have gone down... anyway, for both of them, I did do a quick turn, aimed and shot with the bow tubes. Only on the first one did I still have a valid "target", but it got the "She's going down sir!" about 2 flashes after I shot the torp. The 2nd one gave me the "She's going down sir!" probably within 30 seconds of hitting it with the stern torp, but it did stay up long enough to get turned and shoot at it with #1. In both cases, the bow torp shots did hit their respective targets, with one exploding, and one a dud. No CTD. Both of these ships though were 'regular' merchants. A small composite and a small split superstructure, no tanker, nothing over 5k tons... I'll keep trying as I travel West-Northwest

Expect a large convoy with 2 escorts if you start heading south west .. I killed and sank them all :)

well.....crap. WTF. this makes my head hurt.

thank you very much for your time and effort. :Kaleun_Salute:

Can you install to a different folder, and see what happens with a new install?

"i re-installed 1.5 from CDROM. "

Did you redo LAA?

J0313 10-05-17 04:52 PM

When is the finished project coming out. This beta version has been out 3 months. Just wondering.

yep. default operation after a re-install.

Rockin Robbins 10-05-17 05:52 PM

We don't have a schedule. When we're happy with the state of the mod we'll go v1.0.

thanks for being the steady anchor here.
i went back into programming test mode and tried each mod scenario. at the end of an hour/hour-and-a-half all i had was 90 minutes gone and a pocketful of CTD's.
so, i uninstalled everything (again). SH4, Mods, JSGME, SHkeymapper, S3editor. NOt only did i de-install i removed the folders then scraped the hard-drive clean of the residual bits that remained. rebooted and reinstalled each piece. and....{drum roll}.... FOTRS-Ultimate now runs. well, my first mission ran: mid-43, gato, out of midway.
i wish i knew where things went awry...just so i wouldnt do that again.
anyway, back in playing mode here: anchors aweigh...sink them all:salute:...go navy beat airforce (this week).

Happy Hunting, mark bonamer! :salute:

You are not the only skipper who has had issues with installs... For some reason, even just one "activate / de-activate" cycle with JSGME, and things get whacky. Other times, I'll get 2 dozen cycles and never encounter a hitch... now that I've just "said" that, I feel that gremlin perched on the back of my chair, looking over my shoulder, breathing down my neck, and getting ready to bite!... :har: - For me, the Save folder is the biggest thing. If I don't empty that ~prior~ to doing a "fresh" install and activation, invariably I will have a messed-up game...

Wacky ?!?!? That's just you PB. :har:

But to be honest, as PB, has pointed out, I have also had this issue before, I'm hammering JSGME along the lines of 25 to 50 times a session to make changes, then load the museum to view the results, then make more corrections. :ping:

Yes during this process, I'm having to wipe / wipe / clean / delete / then reinstall SH4 and so forth.... Or else i'm getting CTD's for the simplest changes of moving a A0 node two clicks forward, then loading museum and CTD..:wah::o:wah:

:arrgh!: ... Whacky is as whacky does, my friend... :har:

And now, for an unabashed "plug" of Rockin Robbins Silent Hunter 4 Crash Management System v1.5, which has been invaluable in helping me keep what's left of my insanity - er, sanity... :timeout: :har:

... which reminds me, I need to re-do this computer again...

i have trouble understanding why the Save Folder causes problems. It is only a repository for games at a checkpoint so why does it cause CTD's? It must be one of those mysteries of life....and poor programming in the Czech Republic or East Germany or wherever Ubisoft HQ is located.:hmmm:

MADLOU 10-08-17 04:03 PM

How do you delete the orange marker on the ocean when the sub is surfaced? Also, is there a way to make the underwater more transparent? Thanks!

The save game contains the identities and position of all ships and virtual ships in the game. If that save file is made in TMO for instance and you try it in FOTRSU, the ships will not be compatible. Lousy error handling in Ubi's programming mean any contact with that ship and your game crashes horribly.

It's good for error checking. It's bad for playing the game.

The orange marker is in "Drive:\ Game ... \ Data \ Misc \ UMark.dds", whatever your path to the Data \ Misc folder is. If you happen to have a copy of TMO, just copy the one from it, re-name the one in FotRSU temporarily, and replace it with the one from TMO, which is basically a "transparent" image file, so the ocean shows through the UMark...

As far as the underwater ocean "clarity", I dunno if I'd go messin' in there... though max-peck did some experiments with that... I'm not sure I can find his old files, or if he happens by here, maybe he still has them... ?? From what max did earlier, he couldn't see any adverse effect on the enemy AI, though that has been know to happen in some mods...
