Thanks guys! :smug:
The weather was kind lately, so modeling has come to the standstill. Im planning how to position all the bits and bobs on the stand, and i came up with something like so: http://img187.imageshack.us/img187/6...d008cl2.th.jpg http://img254.imageshack.us/img254/4...d005jd0.th.jpg I was thinking on making the welds using the tape, and filler technique i even made the little tool for the weld texture: http://img507.imageshack.us/img507/6...r002tn5.th.jpg But i suspended the thought, after one of my friends recommendet to me this site: http://www.archertransfers.com/ They specialise in making nice transfers imitating anything from welds / 4 sizes / to rivets, vehicle markings, even stitching of clothing from I WW era. I just ordered the set, so the work in the yard is on hold untill the parcell arrive. Are you planning to stain/varnish the mahogany base?

Siara,
I love your idea of mounting the model the way you choose. I have a few suggestions about the overall compostion: I would make the board a little bit shorter and definitely move the awards closer to the smaller board. The way you have it now, IMO, the uboat badge seems to lost on the board. This is just the Photoshop quickie: http://www.mediafire.com/imgbnc.php/...dae023c36g.jpg Maybe balance the Knight's Cross on the other side with uboat badge AND U-552 metal cap badge: http://www.mediafire.com/imgbnc.php/...ff5b512e6g.jpg Just tossing some ideas around... |
:hmm:

I think that looks like it would go good on the base.:D

Problem with welds has been solved.
Transfers from Archer Fine Transfers just reached me, and i must say im impressed. http://img257.imageshack.us/img257/9...x004fq1.th.jpg http://img352.imageshack.us/img352/3...x007hj6.th.jpg The glass case is ready aswell: http://img183.imageshack.us/img183/5...x003id9.th.jpg I must cut the timber to fit the tank, and router the edges. More soon. |
I always had the problem finding right diameter brass tubes, and finally i found the shop that had all the bits in stock:
http://img517.imageshack.us/img517/5...y001gw9.th.jpg Some more stuff i bought: http://img165.imageshack.us/img165/4...y004kj4.th.jpg I needed extra supply of clear varnish for fixing Archer Fine Transfers weld lines. TBC... |
