A friend of mine is Lebanese. Her finance "asked permission" from her father as it is the customary thing to do.

It was a formality as the father really can't prevent it. But it is a nice tradition. Besides it helps to get the dad on board with a little schmoozing. :up:

Similarly the tradition of the father giving the bride away.
