Well, in our opinion, it makes the game too easy.

During testing, we tried putting them back in but whenever I got a hydrophone contact of an enemy warship, I just turned away from it.

Having them coloured removes the need to identify the vessel, just like the real kaleuns had to. We've even removed the directional tails of contacts now and made the hydrophone lines dashed, so that you don't exactly know where the contact is.

There might be an unofficial mod made available after release which adds the coloured contacts & tails back into the game.
Although I started playing SH3 a few weeks ago, I did start with GWX rather than stock, so I'm used to having no colours for the contacts. However I don't feel ready yet to progress to, what is essentially, no update mode, with GWX 2.0.

It would be nice to keep current with the game version and have 2.0 though.

So I guess I'm unclear on what is mentioned here - "hydrophone lines dashed". I think means contact locations will be shown without 100% accuracy. But will those indications be updated as they move?

Apologies if I should have read this somewhere. Once again the manual is fantastically put together and is a massive work in itself. The 1.3 version would be a very interesting read for someone who doesn't even have SH3! So far, I've only skimmed the 2.0 version, mostly, reading some parts in detail.

This post is in no way questioning why 2.0 was developed this way - the GWX team are beyond any questioning when you consider the commitment they've made on so many levels. I'd merely like to be clear on this item so I know if I'm ready to enjoy their latest and last gem.

Hey what is your problem ?
The contacts are grey ? Remember - GWX is one of the best big expansions
because authors brings to us as much REALISM as they can.
REALISM of u-boot battlefield during WWII ! Do you think that u-boot captain
in 1942 has red marked ships on his map ? With fine directed tails ?
Jeez...:damn:

If you miss to red tails there probably will be possible to enable in JSGME
mod which bring you that what you want...There was an old mod - just check UBRLS.COM DLC.:yep:

Guys some people just want to play for fun. Some want to play hardcore. So an updated mod for colour markers would be good I think. :hmm:

Indeed.
No need to get as aggressive as you did lutzow, it's not like he's demanding that they REMOVE the grey contacts, he just asked a question, sheez.

Yes - you got the right - too much aggressive and now i'm sorry for that.:-?
Just lost patience - we waited for new GWX expansion for very long time
and now when this is detected by sonar there are posts with doubts and questions : why this, why that...
I take GWX like a ...word of oracle. This is new core and there will be new
hundreds of mods around this core - like always and i don't worry about that.
There is one thing which worries me more. What thing ?
GWX team says in the past that this is LAST GWX expansion:oops: :dead:
And now i ask : WHYYYYYYYY:oops::cry:

There is still enough information displayed on the screen for you to play as you see fit.:yep:

What we have done is, remove the direction tails of the contacts but this is only at higer zoom levels, when you zoom in, you will be able to see the direction of travel.

The Hydrophone lines are dashed/broken so that they do not give a 100% accurate distance reading anymore, however, they do still give 100% accurate bearing and are continually updated.

If you try to put yourself in the hydrophone operators seat for a moment, could you hear a contact over your headphones and instantly say, hmm, that is a Small Merchant and it's exactly 2324m away?;) We just tried to remove some of the accuracy from the game, just like RL.

The bottom line of this change is that casual players will still be able to play how they want but the more hardcore players will see the added realism. We have always strived to keep GWX playable for all levels of interest.

To all. Everything appears to be on schedule for release to donators tomorrow.

Tool 12-08-07 09:59 AM

This has probably already been answered, but I'll ask anyways.. Can you use your current career with 2.0, or is it best to start over? I know when i loaded up 1.2 (i'm still running that), i used the original one from SH3 (stock) and it worked fine.

Just curious.. can't wait.. how about you release it early

Tool.

We are releasing it one week early to donators.

Today I am finishing up the uploads to Subsim.com and then we will DL it to check for data corruption.

Sorry mate, the schedule is there for more than one reason.
