Oldham West and Royton by-election

Ok folks little confused here, yes we all knew labour would win but I'm hearing reports they have increased their majority.


General election results
Michael Meacher 23,630 votes, turn out 59.6%

By-Election resuluts
Jim McMahon 17,209 votes, turn out just over 40%

So why am I hearing this...Bigger Majority than the general election? :hmmm:

Excuse me less votes less turn out does not make a bigger majority or have I missed something here?
