Cannot install this to SH3! Help

I'm trying to install this mod and it keeps giving me an error message saying:

You have selected this path:
D:\Program Files\Ubisoft\Silent HunterIII\

SH3 must not be installed in this path!

Please install SH3 anywhere else!

Spaces are not allowed in the file names or paths!

I've tried to install SH3 in other places as well and it's not working. Any ideas what's up with this? I'm running Windows 7 SP1 64bit.

thanks!

I don't remember the specific installation routine for LSH, but after installing SH3, I copied the directory to the root of the drive, ie. D:\SH3 and ran the app from there. Have you tried installing to the root, or copying the directory to a different location?

@chowderhead62

1. Two things you have not noticed in LSH3 Installation Manual:
The name of the folder "program files" no matter where it is always a system folder with restricted user rights and should not be used for games.
2. space in the folder or file name may or may not cause problems for programs with API functions from Windows Vista and up.
look MSN guidelines
Therefore, I have decided not to allow for programming of LSH3 starter, space in the name or path.

Cannot initialize 3D

I am having a problem getting the game to work. The only way I can get it to work is if I lower my desktop resolution to 1024x768. If I lower the resolution to 1024x768 I can then check windowed and run it in windowed but when I apply the widescreen patch it doesn't change the size of the window. The game just gets cut off by the edge of the window.

I have a GTX 670 and have it set to aspect ratio and GPU in settings. I really want to play this mod but I cannot get it to even scale to full screen. The only way I can play it is at 1024x768 not scaled, either in a small window or by lowering my desktop resolution to 1024x768. My monitor is a dell u2412M 1920x1200. Can someone who knows the ins and outs of setting this mod up please help me out? If my setup is not going to work that's fine but I remember a couple years ago I played this game and had it stretched to full screen and had a higher resolution. If someone could explain to me how I can get the game to play at 1920x1200 that would be great. If it won't play at 1920x1200 can someone help me get it as high as it will go and show me how to get it to stretch without it saying "cannot initialize 3D"?

The SH3 game needs a clean installation before LSH3 -2015 can be installed.
SH3 will want to use the default installation in to the program x86 folder on your main drive.
SH3 should be installed in a new folder on any drive not in the program x86 folder.
The folder name does not need to have a complicated name, SH3 will do for example.
LSH3-2015 should then be pointed to the new folder to install it.
Example D:\SH3

Yep... that's exactly right. A little bit of a pain, but it works, and if you really like the GUI, a little effort well spent.

After a few tries I have abandoned the idea, installing any GUI even post transfer seem to result in a CTD on load, either into port or in patrol. My mod list can not be cleaner, just LSH, Patch HSIE_V16B1, Historical Messages + whatever alternative widescreen GUI

Hi dr d
Sorry to hear you are giving up on this as I can assure you it is not LSH3-2015 at fault.

I have never had a ctd after many missions and game saves.

When you downloaded either the single file or multiple files did you check the number of bytes where the correct number as showing in lsh3.com?
It is important that your downloaded file/s where not corrupted.

If you are running AVG anti-virus it will treat the hsie as a threat and block it.

I would be interested to know your installation path?
Did you run any of your applications as administrator?
What OS are you using?
Did you start your game from SH3Commander by going to the Naval Academy without making any changes other than selecting a career name?
Did you enable the main LSH3 mod without any GUI mod and then try the Naval Academy?

Ctd on load!
Do you mean ctd to the main menu?
Do you mean ctd after starting from the office to your boat?

Believe it or not I am sure there is a simple answer to your problem.

In addition to what Peter wrote, are you running in Compatibility Mode for Win XP?

THEBERBSTER 03-30-16 01:54 PM

Hi siege
Compatibility mode only needs to be used on the SH3.exe
OS10 ctd when loading saved game none since using OS7 compatibility.
Never had a problem with OS7 but would have used XP2 as you suggested.

I'm on Win 8 latest, no antivirus. The clean install of SH3 was in c:\SH3 folder, MODS folder is inside of it with the mods library. I use SH3 Front End and yes I start using SH Commander.

CTDs happen on the loading screen, with the loading bar usually nearly at an end. Regardless if it's in port or on patrol.

This only happens if I try any other GUI apart from the supplied ones.

Hello

yes LSH run with windows 7 compatibility (it is in the installation pdf file), clic right on your sh3.exe, properties, compatibility, select "windows 7" and select "run as administrator". or are you using a wrong mod in your jsgme ?

THEBERBSTER 03-31-16 06:44 AM

Hi dr d
Your last post with your ctd at the end of your loading will be down to I believe 2 things.
1 You need to run your applications in administrator mode.
2 You need to find the right compatibility mode with OS Win 8
I would try OS7 to start with and then XP2 if that does not work.
I was having numerous hit and miss saved game loadings with OS10 until I changed the SH3.exe and SH3Commander to run as administrator.
The SH3.exe compatibility was changed to run OS7.
No further ctd's to date when loading a saved game.

It might be a good idea to show your current mods list also sp that can be ruled out as a problem.

Have changes things now to Win 7 compatibility mode and run as administrator.
My mod list can not be less cluttered.

Hi dr d
Regarding your mod list.
If you have any problems you will know which mod to look at.

I have redrawn the image for the nomograph tool, previous one was almost completely unreadable in my opinion.

Just replace the data\Menu\Gui\nomo.tga with the new one if you like the result.
