Ohh cwaps,
We got another "OMFG i am addicted to this beautiful mod" he he Welcome Aboard Fisherman Breath takingly beautiful ehh ??? You know you gonna die several times now while surfaced enjoying the scenery ;) lol Yeah ALL that work on this sure do make the sim better, Adds another dimension don't it Well Have Fun Ciao Def |
Ok I tried it with deactivated post processing.
Environments 4.3 looks to run stable now but PE2 will still crash the whole system if a large explosion occurs. And I was wrong it was no *.dll it’s a *.sys responsible for the bluescreen. Vista told me in the error report that the Nvidia graphics driver is responsible for the system failure. Suggestions to solve this problem were windows or driver update. Since I tried FW 179.43 without results and my Windows is up to date I guess nothing can help until a new driver release from Nvidia. Too bad… I actually like PE2 more than E4.3 but I guess I stick to E4.3 till Nvidia releases a new driver. |
We are not responsible for any funk-ups due to nVidia and/or Vista! :rotfl:
Seriously now, this mod has been tested extensively by various people, with various graphics card setups, and we haven't encountered any problems of this kind. To those who encounter problems with newer nVidia drivers, try reverting to an OLDER version (as strange as it might sound, it might actually work; unfortunately, some drivers are just problematic in some games, while others work just fine). @Fisherman: next time you go for a beer, drink one or two in memory of Dave "LeoVampire", founder of the ROW Mod, and toast in kriller2's name, the person who took the heavy burden of ROW on his shoulders after Dave's passing. ;) |
I’m not trying to say that the mod is at fault, the driver seems to cause problems. I would just like to get it working because it's awesome. I’ll give the old forceware 163.75 WHQL a shoot and try the new 174.74 beta again without post processing.
It must have something to do with the particle effects because I have similar problems when I use the black smoke 1.5 mod. |
Boy am I glad I chose an ATi yet again for my new rig! :rotfl:

ForceWare 163.75 failed for me, the same as 169.25, it will produce bluescreen when a large explosion occurs. Using the newer beta builds like 174.93 will result in a blackscreen and complete lock up of the system. :dead:
I did some small research on this. The file that crashes the system is: nvlddmkm.sys The crash apparently only occurs when using an 8800GTX or Ultra with 768MB RAM on Vista. It seems to be related to some memory issue, the game will crash sooner or later whenever it needs a certain amount of memory e.g. when a huge explosion occurs. The mods are certainly not at fault, it’s just that they need more resources than a stock SH4 and will lead to an earlier crash because of that. The only thing that seems to be able to solve this issue is a new driver from Nvidia.:shifty: (like Nvidia would care about Sh4... they only want more FPS in Crysis to boost their ego over ATI...) I’ll deactivate the high quality mods for the time being, that makes the game run long enough to complete at least some solo missions. Well I won’t bother you guys with this anymore as it’s obviously not related to the mod itself. Anyway nice work, keep it up. |
i bought a 9800gtx and i have no more crashes, not an easy solution but it works:rock::rock:

I bought U $ 1200 ATI forever and a day ago. Conked Out in the first month of playing!!!!!!!! Immediatley returned to the store and bought a medium grade NVIDIA card. I have never trusted anything but NVIDIA and never will untill NVIDIA or ATI proves other wise.
I have a NVIDIA Gefore Go 7900 in my laptop as we speak. 256mb. Pretty stout for a laptop if I may say so. |
Hiya's,
Well i was running vista x64 In it either in a games folder i made or the default folder for SH4 i got explosion lockups Only if i added manual adjustments in both AA options in nvidia control panel So with no AA fine and dandy, But images of sub etc are too blocky for me This was with drivers from last year upto latest beta's (which are damn solid i must say) So to be safe and keep on subbing i've redone a dualboot XP solely for SH4 and vista x64 for crysis/cod4 and other games i'm likely to buy and also all my editing software etc So in my 64bit case it's purely a driver problem arising when AA is used :( C'mon Nvidia get ya drivers sorted lol Cheers Ciao Def |
I'm running Vista x64 with 4GB or RAM and a 8800GTX at 1680x1050 and i have to say that this mod is beautifull. took me a while to get everything working. I had an issue where everytime there was an animation of a gun firing or flame i would get extreme slowness (from 50fps to 1fps)
A few of my favorite pic's. http://i28.tinypic.com/2vmzdqa.jpg http://i26.tinypic.com/iohtns.jpg http://i31.tinypic.com/2hyz4sn.jpg http://i27.tinypic.com/102qy47.jpg |
Hiya,
Darn nice screenies there :) I am running the 8800gts 640 so i think it's about time for an upgrade card-wise XP is running the sim fine, Just couldn't run it in x64 with no AA as it didn't do justice to the mod ;) Well Have Fun phenoxan, and Welcome Aboard :) Ciao Def |
just as a general tip... 64-bit operating systems are asking for trouble with a lot of games. Also, few games are compiled for 64bit. Even though 64bit processors are very common, a lot of software is not made for it. So Windows ends up emulating 32bit to run the software. Windows also needs 64bit drivers which may not be as mature as the 32bit counterparts.
Right now, running a 64bit operating system is generally a bad idea unless you work with specific software that is compiled for it... like the 64bit versions of 3d Studio Max, etc. Only a handful of games have native 64bit versions, including Half Life 2 and Far Cry. Most games don't even have a perceptible improvement going from 32 to 64bit. Vista is also a bit of a hazard because of drivers, system maturity. So just about the worst thing you can do is run Vista x64. Of course, milage may vary... . but I would encourage most people to pick Windows XP 32bit if they are planning on gaming. Some folks might have a great experience with Vista x64, but there's more risk of technical problems that just don't want to be sorted out. Best wishes, -m |
I knew what i was getting myself in for when i installed Vista, I have ran it since the RTM was released last year. I think i am extremely lucky because i have had hardly no problems with with. Both performance and campatibility wise. I can run Crysis on very high at my native res at a comfortable 40fps. i like vista and wouldn not consider giong back to xp. i have seen vista run on machines that werent as powerfull on mine and its a horrible experience, if you have teh juice to run it, it is a good OS
Some games have took a bit of work to get running. I have lost count of how many times i have reinstallled Silent Hunter 4. And i just gave up on Armed Assualt. aside from that i have had a very pleasant Vista x64 experience. @ Defiance. I run the NHancer application and force 8x AA and 16x AF. Seems to do the job ok. |
