I am not completely upto date with all this X1 stuff but I know they have ripped of the modders and the consumers by charging and IMHO they are scum. You all have to feel sorry for the people who spend hour upon hour never really playing the game but rather testing and tweaking and creating it to be better for us gamers, then only to stand back and watch some **** who has been lurking in the background, take your work, give a tiny thankyou and then make money on it. GGGGGRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR. X1 up yours :P |
X1 sounds bad...I was wondering about the banners I was seeing...now I know. How can they legally sell something they didn`t create?

Well, from the legal perspective, this is pretty straightforward:
Mods that are created by someone are probably protected by copyright law (and if they are protected by US/UK/French etc. copyright law, they are also protected under German copyright law, as per reciprocity). So anyone whose Mod is copied verbatim by X1 in this "compilation" has a potential claim against X1 for copyright infringement. The easiest thing would be to send a "cease and desist" letter to X1 and see how they will react. If they don't do business in the country you're living in, there is a chance that they will not react at all (and you probably don't want to sue them in Germany). There are some potential problems that have to be considered, and to name one of them: A lot of the Mods are actually using copyrighted material without consent of the copyright holder (just think about anything that uses material from the movie "Das Boot"). Just my 10 legal cents ... Chuck |
I don't want to Re-hash this but i've been emailing X1/Seawolves to tell them what they are doing is WRONG!!!!!!
The guy who responded to me was Steffen Trombke Wrote...... I am just the publisher and the modders give the permission by his self, yes. All is ok with seawolves. If there a modder there have a problem with seawolves let me know :)) All this discussions about seawolves in the last time make the modders sadly and nobody from then want make more mods for free, only give me. The community from SH3 harmed his self. Sorry that your posts is not in the forum, but nobody want a discussions again. Steffen Sooooo i guess you guys...all gave him permission???? LOL!!! :damn: They are a JOKE!!!!! I can't believe Matrix Wargameing are partners with them.. :hulk: |
Sorry....UBI is the one that has to give permission...they are on this as we speak. The game tools are still part of the copy-righted UBI material. Mods has nothing to do with it. Money does. Being exploited in Germany is major bad. Too bad for X1soft.

It is amusing to see this tired discussion still stirring the pot.
Please, anyone that has a mod on Seawolves speak up. State the mod and make a claim here that this is the case. All I hear is the same old unsubstantiated grumbling with no real factual accusations.. Some people just can not understand how some do not have the time or capacity to download and install the mods and complain because some very small company made an add on that included, beside their own material, some mods. The fact I do not need to do so (I mod the mods myself in many cases) is no right for me to insist other people should learn what I know and make your own mods or get them and install them and make dubious statements like “they all work great because mine do so yours have to” Some people are not on your level and/or don’t want to be bothered. Then there are the ignorant; “so sue them” people. They have permission for what is in Seawolves. Do I need to repeat that? Is there any part of that you can not figure out? Do I need to zip it and upload it so you can download it and understand it better if it is in the form of a mod? They have permission from UBIsoft. Do you understand that? Do you also understand that most mods are UBI copyrighted and therefore any such unauthorized mod may (I don’t really know) dubious and X-1 is the only one that has official permission (that I know of.) Think about that for a minute!!!! While I do not nor ever have worked for X-1 (or any payware company) I have offered to be a naval history consultant to any dev, including UBI and X-1. That is they are free to email me and ask about ships, weapons, events etc and I will offer an opinion. X-1 has been doing that for their next project (I did not consult on Seawolves) and when you people see it half of you whiners that say you would never have anything to do with X-1 will be secretly buying this next add on. That is all I can say about it. This is such a long passed should be dead issue but those unaware of its real conclusion seem to prefer crying about it rather than just moving on. Mind you, they screwed up in how they handled it initially, but that is long past and far less relevant than the Starforce hassle to SH3 people, IMO. Most on this forum get the mods and know that if they have a problem many nice people will work with them to tweak their SH3 to be all that it can be. I have received much help here and it has made my SH3 a much better experience. But, I am a mod maker in other venues so moddong this and adding mods is what I enjoy. To insist anyone doing it different is not correct; a be like me or you are wrong; is in fact wrong. Wulfmann |
