I expect there to be EU references tied into this, despite the EU having been recently expelled into discontinuity, but probably not anything major. I think a reworking of the Thrawn trilogy and the Hand of Thrawn duology could have made an excellent sequel trilogy, but that wasn't going to ever happen anyway.

I'm not particularly excited by J. J. Abrams involvement in this. I'm not a major Star Trek fan so I don't have much of the rage that that group has against him, but I rather dislike most of his work that I've seen. Regardless, I'm going to try judging this thing by its own merits, however little of those I expect it to have.

From what little I have heard of Thrawn, he would make a good basis of a film series. :yep:

That new dodgy lightsaber should come with a health warning user beware of burning parts of your body off with those side bits. Mind you the dark side took a beating maybe they have taken up smoking from the stress their under, those side sabers handy for lighting up a smoke.

You need at least a joint to come up with a design like that. Regular smokes wouldn't cloud your judgment enough.:-?

Interesting discussion, but I am sure we all realise we are not the target audience for this movie.

Even the original trilogy was light and frothy entertainment aimed at young adults. This movie will be aimed squarely at children/tweens/teens like the three "prequels".

Hollywood does not make movies aimed at adults anymore, certainly not big budget movies.
