Looks like a street light, the water line of a ship or a brick sidewalk and possibly the shadow of a hand.

Spot on, although the locomotive in the picture was actually classed as a West Country class, which is exactly the same but a) made in a different place, b) operated in a different section of the Southern railway and c) was made later. There were a few differences when they were rebuilt, but nothing that much of note.
