Voted for Connery, but in my minds eye Craig runs a very close second.

I too prefer the books over the movies. It seems that a movie can't be made without exagerating the book. The last Bond book I bought a couple of weeks ago, "Carte Blanche" by Jeffery Deaver, gets back on track to Bond at a younger age. Even the Admiral "M" is in it, tho there's a different armourer named "Q". Maybe it the "Q" we all liked but at a younger age too.

Platapus, thanks for the insight. Our opinions are very close on this matter. Unlike you, I did enjoy Casino Royale. They changed a lot, but the basics were there. My preference would be for movies based in the actual time period, the Cold War of the 1950s.

Now there is a theory, that James bond is not one guy, but a successive line of agents, and that James Bond and 007 are merely code names.

Like M and Q, when one 007 dies or quits, the next one comes up to replace him.

I like this theory, as it perfectly explains the difference in personality and appearance caused by changing the actors.

Then you should see the aforementioned Casino Royal from the 1967, with David Niven, Peter Sellers, Ursula Andress, Daliah Lavi, Woody Allen and Terrence Cooper, all as James Bond.

It would be nice if someone made some JB movies that followed the books (the original books)

And for that reason...No Vote.

Here is a bit of almost interesting James Bond trivia:

Ian Flemming was not happy with his book "The spy who loved me". It was not well received and frankly is not one of the better books in the series.

When Flemming sold the movie rights, it was under the stipulation that no part of the book would appear in the movie. That is one of the reasons why the book and the movie have almost nothing in common other than character names.... that was the agreement by Flemming. :D

Interesting Platapus, I never knew that, but I loved that movie (I mean a Lotus that converts into a mini sub! :rotfl2:) and it had the best theme tune of all the Bond movies ever in my view

Yay, It's Dalton!

Ahh, good to see that Dalton has some support!

You should all go to the James Bond Museum in Keswick, a fantastic afternoons worth of JB stuff including most of the cars - Lotus rescued from the scrapyard.

I've got some pics somewhere. . . :hmmm:

Who is the best James Bond ?

Naturally, Sean Connery.

Who is the best James Bond film ?

Maybe "Never Say Never Again".

Cheers.

It has no gunbarrel sequence. Therefore, your point is invalid.

I've just tried the website, but it appears the museum shut down last year and moved to Miami along with the sister musuem Stars of the Cars. :/\\!!

So only Beatrix Potter and the Pencil Musuem left in the Lakes!!!

Edit: Some vehicles may be at Beaulieu, National Motor Musuem, until some time next year.

Good god that movie was terrible. Are you blind and/or deaf?

I said in my James Bond thread that Never Say Never Again was hanging out with Moonraker as the two worst bond films, IMHO.

One does not simply remake Thunderball and get away with it.

One simply does not make Thunderball itself and get away with it. :har:

That movie was GREAT!

Ok, so James Bond does not really have its own "style".
I mean, Bond movies have been everything from blackploitation to science fiction.

Now if we say that Quantum of Solace is James Bond's "reaction" to Jason Bourne, and Moonraker is a Star Wars influenced film, than Never Say Never Again is James Bond's version of Mr. Bean, or the Pink Panther.

And you know what? James Bond doing comedy is better than James Bond in space, by far.

Ah, but it was the only one ever to have the battlship-grey Bentley, so it's the only one that is valid. :O:

Well, it's good but... how many underwater fight scenes do you need?
I must admit, however, if you cut the underwater fight scenes down, it would be rather good.

Maybe both !

As blind, impossible to see your James Bond thread, maybe the most interesting one on SUBSIM.

As deaf, impossible to hear the praises for your remarkable comments about James Bond films.

Deaf?-You can't hear the internet. :hmmm:

Either way, that movie is still bad. :nope:
