I would say it is more a conflict between say "realists" and "purists". It is a conflict inherent in any political party, but probably more acute now in the GOP, namely, do you pick a candidate who most represents your views or one who is most likely to win?
Gingrich may be closer to what da "Base" is looking for, but is a long shot against Obama.
Romney probably has a better chance to win the election, but is too moderate for da "Base".....plus he's a MORMON! :o
