Lets face facts.

We have a series of natural disasters lined up for 2012, the worst being a polar shift and solar flares - while niether one is going cause armageddon, they could still potentially be quite nasty.

The global econemy is hanging by a thread, The Euro looks like its not going to make it, Nations are in debt, some are facing bankrupcy, a worst case but not impossible secnario is a total collapes of the current monetary and banking system.

Lastly the population is about to hit 7 billion, (doubled in the last 40 years) the current rate of poulation growth and consumption is fast reaching the point where it will no longer be sustainable. Resource wars are pretty much inevitable.

I hate to sound alarmist but the future is not looking very pretty for us is it?..
At the very least it looks like our quality of life is inveitably going to be stepped down a notch or 3. Time to stop taking things for granted I guess.
I know the above outlook is 'unpopular' but its the reality we all going to have to face up to sooner or later.

IMO much of mankind needs to stop living in denial while trying to fix things with band aids, maybe we need to wake up, grow up and openly admit that we have (to some extent) screwed up - then take it from there.

So your first one says a peak in 2013 and your second says anything can happen but its 2013 for the peak and is predicted to be the lowest peak for almost a century while your third is on about conspiracy websites peddling 2012 disaster stories.

Potentially Saddam can turn out not to have died, to really have WMDs and be about to destroy the world as he has this Mayan fetish about next year.

its happened before and its going to happen again next year - that is factual, what the full effects will be is speculation, scientists arent certain if flares will be strong enough to penatrate the earths natural defences or not.
It could be chaos or it could be nothing. Its a roll of the dice as they say.
But it is nessecary for us, to prepare for 'potential' threats is it not?

But yes if it makes you feel superior - maybe linking the above example with the phrase 'face facts' wasnt the best choice of wording.

My main casepoint is simply that the future looks unpleasent, hence fema camps, emergency broardcast drills etc etc. mind you if the solarflares do harm our power grid? the latter isnt going to be of much use.

Solar flares happen all the time they happened last year they happen this year they happen next year, 2012 is nothing special for solar flares apart from to the conspiracy fringe who even then get it wrong as the peak is the following year and is not even expected be a big peak(lowest peakfor nearly 100 years wasn't it in your link).

I don't know Mapuc. Solar flares will have knocked out most forms of electronic communications by then. Whats left the executive branch will have shut down. Well it can all go to the dogs on Nov 5 as I'll be back home in the sticks of southern tier New York, at least I know the lay of the land with 4 lakes within a quarter of a mile of the house full of bullheads, perch, and bass. The front yard is a virtual superhighway for deer, and it will be openening day for deer a week or 2 after I get up there. I say let it go to heck, for I'll have 3 basements to hideout in, and a couple of 100 acres to run through . With my luck it will crap out when I get to Florida well a least I'll be warm, wasn't really wanting to spend a winter there snow is nice to look at, not to live in, global warmin my a&&
