Hi rik !

I test your MOD (16km) and I must say: All works well, no problems, looks very nice !!!

With HiResFix enabled (1280x1024) I don´t have the Golfball Sun !
Without HiResFix at Standard Resolution I´ve the Golfball Sun too ! But this is the same with each Env.MOD (e.g. from makman). Always when HiResFix enabled, no Golfball Sun, without Fix > Golfball Sun !

I´ve an nVidia GTX260 Card !

So I play since years always with HiResFix and I would recommend to anyone do the same ! ;) With Fix enabled is another game-experience !

Best regards,
Magic

I changed a little bit the RGB values of the sun-halo in the dat files

My own 16km mod

this mod in 16km version, now the sun halo is slightly visible

used on nVidia GTX590 with latest drivers and factory settings

I see what you mean. Good news is that there is no real problem. It is indeed the SunHalo in the EnvColors files. The SunHalo is buggy. It doesnot respond to changes in settings as you would expect. That makes modding difficult.

I tuned the size of the halo in the game with what I saw in reality and I tried to create the effect that the sunlightlevel decreases when it disappeared behind the clouds. When that happens the halo color will be tuned down to the color specified in the environmentfiles. The other moment that the halocolor will appear is at sunset/rise.

I will check if I can use the alphachannel to get the clouds less transparent and I will look into a bigger sun(halo) as an optional mod. At the end this is matter of taste and what is possible.

Great news and good to know. HiresFix should be on top of everybody's list. There are two versions. The original one (d3d9.dll created on 24-3-2005) and one that comes with the widescreen mod(s) (19-3-2010). The original one has the ability to change the overall color which the latter lacks.

Thanks Magic! Will include that in updates. :DL

For the golfball problem can you help with some experiments?

-Download experiment.zip:

http://www.mediafire.com/file/dp1psz...Experiment.zip

-Rollback your current SH-5 Water install
-Activate Experiment 3 and test
-Activate Experiment 2 and test
-Activate Experiment 1 and test
-Then you can rollback them all...

You can use the navigation from the naval academy as these mission load fastest.

Look forward to the results

Regards,

Rik

Hi Java,

The link was dead as I removed it because I concluded that testing is not needed anymore. The Sunhalo.tga is indeed the solution for this problem.

Rik

Hi Magic,

For me the smallest one is most realistic and maybe I'm wrong:

But who cares?

Beautiful work!

Just a thought... When looking at the last screenshots with optional sun sizes. The brightness of the sun appears very fierce and stark. I'm no sure but maybe the whiteness of it makes it look like a shot from Deep Impact or similar movie. Also (I think) if you imagine those screen shots without the sun, the colours would be perfectly believable. But with the sun, it just doesn't feel quite right. I'm guessing it's something to do with the rest of the scene not relating to that bright fierce blazing star in the sky; just some constructive critisism. Hope you don't mind. And perhaps it is a limitation of the engine anyway.

Hi Rik007,
great mod and very good results with the 16 Km atmosphere. I like the 20 Km atmosphere better for game play; any progress on the issues?

Victor Schutze 07-28-11 10:05 AM

I second this question :DL

I am a 20kmer :salute:

I will check if I can do something with the sunhalo.tga.

I think it may just be the lack of glare. It's almost as if I'm viewing the scene through a dark tint lense -a pair of Ray Bans maybe! Just my own feeling. But I do love the screenies in the original post; the best sea yet in my opinion. :yeah:
