Agree. Though I dislike it myself I must admit that watching famous people fall from grace is a popular American pastime.

It is understandable for it is the people who choose to make them famous

What the people giveth, the people can taketh away. :)

Celebrities need to understand that they can't pick and choose which publicity they have. They have no problems seeking publicity when it suits them, well, they then should accept the publicity when it does not suit them :yep:

I think that's a little shortsighted. (And I always feel there's some kind of envy involved in this argument)
I know defending politicians is will raise some eyebrows here and there, but consider this: first of all, if you're going into politics, you have no choice. It's the people who want to see you on tv, want to know about your family, your life and all that. It's part of the job, and I don't think most of them like publicity that much. It's just part of the job. And there's some perverted demand from a part of the public to know about their personal lives.

Second, it's this lynching thing that really bugs me. The first thing a public figure does ANYTHING wrong, there's a huge mob of people that immediately take the opportunity to burn him to the ground. It's got jealousy written all over it.
Cheating is wrong. Hell, I can even call Arnold wrong on a whole bunch of things, but is it somehow worse when he does it than when your next-door neighbor does it? He somehow deserves all of this cr*p because he is a public figure? That feels wrong to me somehow.

He was the Gov of a state. It's not the same as my neighbor.

It's like when a cop breaks the law, or a preacher sins. Much bigger fall.

Unless it is publicity that gets then elected and then they are all in favour of it.

Nope, if my next door neighbour cheats, then he or she is just as dishonourable as a celebrity. I will have equally no respect for them.

I just believe in balance in the world. If you want publicity for the good things, you have to accept the publicity for the bad things.

Me? I am a very private person. I shun publicity. So when I do good things, I get no publicity, when I do bad things I don't get publicity. Balance. It works out well because people really don't care about me.

I just think it is hypocritical to accept publicity when it is convenient and then to insist on privacy when it is not convenient.

This is why celebrities are paid the big bucks, their lives are public.
