Kids will be kids. In a few more years they'll have their own natural uni-brow. :yeah:

And ear hair, hairy knuckles, back hair, facial hair... :hmm2:

And before they know it they'll be complaining about the next generation...:damn::sunny:

That too. We never do that, do we? :D:har:

For the record, when I was a teen I tried very hard to look like a Kurt Cobain/Tony Hawk hybrid. When that didn't work out I shaved the sides of my head and pulled the rest of my hair back into a ponytail. To top that off I had a great big pair of round shades, tinted purple. At some point I found an Army/Navy store and took to wearing a beat up pair of 'Nam style combat boots (mit Panama soles), a green beret that was about one size too small for my head, and a collection of "East German work shirts" (complete with a flag on one shoulder). Did I mention that I tucked my jeans into the boots and bloused them out? :yeah:

It never dawned on me how freakish I looked, until one day when I went to the mall with my Mom to pick up a Fugazi album. Two mall rats walked by, took one look at me and busted up laughing. I tried really hard not to blush, but pretty sure my face looked like a beet -- man I was beat. Kept right on going with that style, though, until I found a nice Woodland pattern boonie hat.

To say the least, I didn't hang with one crowd or the other - especially in high school. I had what I figure was my own befuddled sense of fashion and, especially, identity. It strikes me as odd that "kids these days" would want to dress up and act like werewolves or vampires. But I can certainly still remember a little of what life was like during those arduous years of development.

Well yeah the service isn't like the old days anyways. He'd just play the emo card and be kicked out forthwith.

Chris Schultz is never going to forget the ass-kicking I gave him that culminated with him being thrown off the slide tower at the playground.

Well I've always had the luck to be pretty large and looking strong (stronger than I actually am). The last time I took a beating must be when I was 6 or so.

And I want to help this kid get to the same point. I'm just not sure how to do it. I think he's experiencing even more insecurity than you or I have ever experienced.
Hmm, I'm not really sure either... It's a lot easier to say "you should do this or that" than to actually do it. It must be quite scary for him I guess.

For *******'s sake, he's part of a vampire cult! How messed-up is your life when you end up in a vampire cult? This kid has problems and I'm not sure that I am qualified to deal with them.
well yeah I guess your life must be pretty f*cked up if you're in a vampire cult:lol:
Seriously though, this cult can hardly do any good for him. It will only alienate him more and more from the normal society.
But probably all his friends are in it as well. I can understand he's scared to leave behind those few friends he has.

You're right, and I have tried to tell him the same thing, but it isn't working. What I've ended up with instead is a person who depends on me for moral support. I think I may be doing more harm than good in this instance.
I don't think you're doing more harm than good. If you were not around he'd probably not go seek any professional help either.

Any inspirational words of wisdom from those who are older and/or wiser than me that I can pass on would be appreciated.
I wouldn't really know any inspirational words of wisdom. I'm generally not a too inspiring speaker if you ask me:lol:

There is one thing I can recommend though, but you've probably already thought of that yourself. It's much easier to make large changes like these when your social contacts change. For example, if you're switching classes or when you're moving. Those new people can form an unbiased opinion on you.
If something like this is going to happen to his life in the near future, that'd be a good moment to change his life.
