Play it on ocation. game gets better modded. I find I keep wanting to play HOI2 when playing SH5 for some reason. lol

McHub532 04-30-10 02:11 PM

I'm playing it in all my time available. But it's because TheDarkWraith's UI mods and getting involved with his constant improvements and new releases... which inspired me to play around with making simple mods of my own.

TheDarkWraith is the only reason I'm still playing the game.

Lots of other awesome mods out there also. We're turning the big pile of poo into something beautiful the more we work on it.

My son bought it for me for my birthday. :DL

I have a very low spec PC - 1 CPU, ATI 9528 with 512Mb RAM und so weiter.

Don't like DRM as with the Google street map thing together with Google's WiFi MAC address mapping I just get the feeling that life just isn't that private anymore - was that a bug in my toilet flush I just spotted?

I will not upgrade my hardware until the game becomes a sim. :nope: It runs SH3 perfectly well :ping:

Saying that the graphics are good and the mods (thanks to all modders:salute:) greatly improve things.

I do enjoy it but get terribly frustrated with having to chase around getting things done - enough of that in RL:yawn: Try finding a closed hatch on the conning tower so that you can open it, get down into the tower so that you can dive when a Destroyer wants to pay a visit:dead:

So - This "game" has great potential and I look forward to the day when I can say to her that holds the purse strings "I need to upgrade my PC for Work".

MLF

Sorry - just wanted to try out a few "smileys" before the election:haha:

Played it and enjoyed it despite some flaws as the modders were quick to sort things out to a reasonable level.
Then they released the '7 days until new patch' news and I got into a mindset that I may as well wait for the patch. Bought MS Flight Sim 10 and have got completely and thoroughly addicted to it.
Not sure what I am going to do when the patch actually does come out. Right now I do not feel I will be in any rush to get SH5 going again. I did enjoy SH5, but just no where near as much as I am enjoying FSX.

RickC Sniper 04-30-10 02:55 PM

Not for some time now. After the patch, I'll start playing it again.

d@rk51d3 04-30-10 04:24 PM

Haven't played for about a week. Although the game isn't at fault for this.

I am kinda tired of the lack of variety in targets, and disappearing large warships on re-load.

Just waiting for patch 1.2.

DedEye 04-30-10 07:06 PM

I played it a lot more when I first got it.

Major issue for me: bugs on reload. I don't always have 2-3 hours to be able to play. The state the game is in now, I don't play it unless I know I have that much time to spend on it. Sadly, I haven't had that much free time in a number of weeks. I need to be able to save the game and be confident that things will be the same on reload so I can do 30, 60, or 90 minute sessions. I can't do that at present so I end up playing something else.

There's a lot of great stuff here, and I very much enjoy playing it. I like the changes they've made overall, particularly the perspective. However I have to admit that I get somewhat demoralized every time I experience glitches still in 5 that were in 3 and 4. Sometimes the mouse view issues I have are frustrating. So I'm also waiting for the patch, hoping these issues will be fixed.

I'm patient and have high hopes :sunny:

I played SH3 continuously from release week right up until about the middle of 2009, hundreds if not over a thousand hours of playing time dedicated to it.

SH5 on the other hand...

I purchased SH5 on release date. of the two weeks i actively played SH5, i probably dedicated 8 hours of play time to it. Total.

It has since been uninstalled and shelved until further notice.

it will also likely be the last ubisoft title of any nautical nature i purchase.

This is the most useful thread on SH5 on Subsim, because it acts as a good summary of where players with experience with SH5 stand. Names of good working mods that make a difference, relevant complaints, etc. For those of us waiting in the wings to purchase, thank you Jaesen for starting this thread.

I agree - this is a good thread:up:

Bought game day one, played for two weeks. Have not touched it since, waiting on patch. :salute:

IanC 05-01-10 02:39 AM

Looks like about 80% of you guys lost interest in just a couple of weeks. Scary.

Westbroek 05-01-10 02:44 AM

I'm happy to report that after a two week hiatus (one week work/one week Arma 2) I installed the new ai mods and played for a solid four hours or so.
The mods are really saving this game;it's unbelievable what's being done.

jwilliams 05-01-10 03:47 AM

I bought the game and played it for 2 weeks (about 3-4 hrs most nights), I like the game and have tried many mods. about 3 weeks ago I stopped playing SH5. This is because I want to play the game as intended, but I cannot play the game as intended because there are many bugs that ruin the game. the most notable one being the morel system being completley broken (loading a saved game resets all the moral to 0).

Another of my most hated bugs is that a ship get stuck to you! I spent over 6 hrs of my time tracking/trying to intercept a sound contact, that stayed at a set distance from me. No mater how fast i went. i even serfaced and raced along at Extreme speed ahead. I changed direction and so did he. It took awhile before i worked out what had happened. I was so pi**ed when i realised that i was trying to intercept an imposible target. What a waste of 6hrs of my time! :-?

So until the patch is released I have shelved SH5.

I beleive this game will be good when (of should it be IF) its been fixed.

Dronston 05-01-10 03:58 AM

Did not play for at least three weeks, like many, hoping a new patch and some mods will make it more interesting. To illustrate my lack of interest in SH5: 3 weeks ago I bought a 22" widescreen monitor (coming from 19" 4:3) and have not even started the game to see what it looks like on my new screen.

Lognoreng 05-01-10 04:14 AM

I played it a bit the first week, haven't felt any need to load the game since..

trotter 05-01-10 04:35 AM

Loaded the game up stock and got the feeling that I would probably never play it again.

Downloaded mods to make it playable. Play ~1 hour every two days now.

Am still incredibly frustrated with
a) lack of different types of targets
b) insanely easy AI
c) campaign objectives that are insulting to actual U-boat servicemen.

Doubt this game has much replayability until the supermods emerge.

JU_88 05-01-10 06:30 AM

Stopped playing it for now, holding out for patches and supermods.

When I play SHV properly I want to get th most out of it. meaning- I'd rather than play SHV at its best, rather than play it unfinished, then be too board of it to revisit it in year or so when I know it will be so much better.
(History has proven this with SH3 and 4, the are both now twice that game they were out the box)

Exactly how I feel. There's a lot of potential here. I just don't want to get burned out before that potential is realized.

SteamWake 05-01-10 07:56 AM

The game sits on my hard drive heavily modded but not played for at least a month now.

Mostly waiting on a patch to fix the things that drove me crazy, dissapering ships, vanishing weather, loss of crew moral, save games that roll me back 'months', etc.

We all are well aware of these issues by now so this isnt an attempt to 'rub it in' its just fact that I am waiting on the fixes then I will give it another chance. :03:
