Ducimus, I have been playing without connecting to the server... oops.. I meant to say that I am having no server connection problems. ;) You have a new pm.

Sorry ubi, not getting in my pockets this time....

Ya know, for sh3 and 4 i just went out and bought it day one of release cause i love sub simulations, and enjoyed them thoroughly... For sh5 i decided to wait for a change as difficult as i knew that would be from all the drm discussions before it was released... Now a week or so after release i come in here to read some feedback and I am so dam glad I didn't put any money in ubi's pocket by purchasing sh5...

I could care less if there are tons of graphical bugs or other bugs but still allow you to play and know they will eventually get fixed... but when this drm connection window pops up as often as everyone is reporting and wont let you even play that's where i draw the line....

I can only hope that there is a majority of others like me that decided to wait and decided to not purchase this load of crap they are trying to shove down everyone's throat like obamas health care crap...

I found it hard to believe people were saying best buy and others were taking them back no questions asked... this is unheard of... once software is opened its tough s hit...its yours no matter how much you cry... companies just don't take back open software usually...

This all really sucks cause this means sh4 will probably be the last good sim to be produced for a lonnnng time....even if ubi notices the dismal sales and refunds they'll still introduce sh6 or other games with drm... Its friggin laughable but disappointing at the same time... As one of the other posters said, they just blatantly walked right over the edge of a cliff....I hope they fire the exec's that decided this drm crap would fly when it sank soon as it hit the water from commissioning lol

I'm guessing that the kind of questions you were asking - could not have been answered without a risk of a banhammer.

So nobodies talking

I see this DRM message alot too. If it pops up, the game won't repeat no matter how long I wait. First two times I hit the OK button resulting in dropping back to the menu screen. On the third time I checked my internet connection that was still good. I don't know if it's a problem with the response time of Ubi's servers that results in annoying DRM screens but each time I see this message I hit ESC and the game continues just normal :o:06:.

I was about to post this solution as well, but see you already did. I think I mentioned it in the bugs & glitches thread the other day.

Happens a lot to me. 'Esc' always works :yeah:

I think the CPU power involved in loading and initialising the game causes the Ubisoft launcher/monitor program to think your connection has dropped, when it's there all along. Same way that Windows often reports programs as "Not responding" just because they've hogged the CPU for several seconds.

Hitting 'Esc' clears the screen without triggering the "back to menu" function of the OK button. If your connection had dropped, the screen would probably pop back right away, but since your connection is alive it carries on without complaint.

That's exactly what the deleted message on the Ubi forums fixed. All you need to do is edit some files to unlock the missions. They don't get downloaded from Ubi, they are already in the game. Of course, you can also cheat this way and for example, skip the early campaigns and move straight to the later ones, it's basic modding stuff like adding renown to your captain or upgrading your crew's stats in SH3.

As for what this thing does...it enables anyone to play the entire campaign without connecting to UBI. That means both the legitimate owners and those with a "bad" copy. We can't openly talk about how to do it due to forum rules though. But yes, it does work, you can play offline and UBI is lying when they say the "bad" version is nothing but a demo ;)

That raises an interesting question as the things that need changing are indeed no different from any mod. All you do is unlock the campaigns manually. The guys who came up with it also uncovered intersting tec-stuff related to campaigns and missions in general, yet we can't talk about it because it can also be used in the pirated version(like any other mod).

Checking in, while waiting to get reconnected, right in the middle of a battle.
Staring at the pop-up window, which happens daily 1-2 times, I wondered:

Why does UBI not display some ads, would make waiting so much more a TV-like experience... :haha:

We buy this game because we love subsims and because we support developers. They work hard to get our lovely game uppon us.

UBI itself as a company is something awful like Goons In Platoons. :D

Anyway check this post on UBI

I think you'll find that his post got deleted by UBI for pretty much the same reason it would get deleted here:03:

Yup, that guy on the UBI forums who found out about that also found out how to add the type IX in SH5. It seems that SH5 uses a lot of SH4 files for the 3d models, but with different textures. It also seems that the release was so rushed that some of the files have been left in the SH5 installation. So, if you have SH4 with the U-boat add-on, you can copy the missing files from your SH4 folder to your SH5 folder, edit some .cfg files and WHAM, you got a type IX in SH5 :DL

A little bird told me that it's the same with that 'uncracked' pirate version. Just have to skip the training mission apparently and you get the missions.

Oh Lord that screen sums it all up for me, you'd think they would at least be able to put the error messages up in proper English, or at least have a native speaker, hell even someone who studied English grammar...

I will never buy any game that requires you to have a connection to some server, or else you cant play. Or buy games with limited installs.

My ability to connect comes and goes with my finances. I can only afford internet about 33% of the time, and usually have to use a family members internet to keep up on things and collect emails the rest of the time.

And I like my anonimity, i do not want to have to login just to play the game I bought. Its no ones business what I play or when I play, or how long I play. I will never knowingly allow my gaming habits to be tracked. One of the main reasons I buy SP games at all, is because I cant always play MP. SP games are what I play when I dont have internet.

And I faithfully reformat my HD every 6 months, so limited installs dont work for me either. I have now reinstalled SH4 probably 20 times, on 3 different machines.

Im all for companies trying to protect from Piracy, I dont blame them one bit. But doing it at the inconvenience of PAYING customers is not the answer. This DRM things has fail written all over it.

As long as this is the case with SH5, i sadly wont be buying it. And because of this nonsense, this will be the first Sub sim I havent bought.

Signed, A former faithful customer.. :-?

P.S. Why dont they go after the torrent sites that put up these links to pirated copies?? Just keep suing them for every little thing you can think of, until the go under! Go after their ISP's to. Put in a non-profit ISP business next door and steal all their business. Until they drop these torrent sites. Theres tons of ways to fight piracy, that isnt on the backs of your paying customers!

CaptainMattJ. 08-23-10 08:43 PM

Will everyone PLEASe just stop whining about DRM. WE GET IT! DRM sucks. Doesnt mean you have to complain constantly about it. Either UBI gets it and whining isnt doing anything productive, or UBI doesnt care, in which case whining still wont be productive. Its been out for like 6 months now. this has to be the fifteen thousandth thread about how DRM sucks. what makes you think THIS thread as opposed to any of the others is gonna make UBI listen. the ONLY way to REALLY force them is to completely boycott it. and we all know that not going to happen. their a company that only cares about profit, like every other company has become. no matter how but BS the companies produce to claim they "care about players", they cant hide the fact that its a lie. once the games are sold they couldnt give a DAM what you want. just as long as they get a profit. youve all bought the game, given UBI money and now their giving you the middle finger, and constantly complaining and not taking action isnt going to help any.
