S!

After reading this forum for the last couple of days I have changed my mind about SH5. I have requested a refund for my preorder from the UBI store.

Looking at all of the great screen shots etc makes this all that much harder to do. :wah:

The more I think about the DRM , the more I am increasingly uncomfortable with this method (used by more and more games it would seem) of protection.

And along with no SH5, I will also be removing ROF from my PC.

I will continue to play both SH3 and 4:)

I am just no longer willing to accept the intrusion, (and possible data collection), that goes with these type of tethered games.

:salute:

The difference is that when I leave the store with the product in my hands they stop watching me. Why? Because the product is now mine.

In fact will you ever go again in any store? or even in a gas station?, cuz they are ''watching'' you with cameras... thus ''treating'' you as a ''criminal'' as well. :shifty:

No PC to run it, no normal copy protection, no binoculars on the watch crew, no patches / mods out yet. There is just no reason to buy it at least for now.

I voted 'I don't know'.

They are treating you as a potential criminal, the difference is, you can still buy petrol, or food if the cameras stop working as they don't close the shop. :woot:. Oh yeah and you can still use the food and petrol you bought last week too.

As I've stated elsewhere, no, not with this form of copy protection. I don't care how fabulous the game may be, I just won't support this in any way shape or form. I have too many games as it is that I don't have enough time to play so they are doing me a favor. :D

Yours?

Nope, unfortunatley that is not the case - you own a license to use it as prescribed by the publisher and nothing more. What do think the license agreement is all about?
Hell the only way you can 'own' your software is to write it yourself.

About Ubisoft ''closing the shop'' I would say those who ''worry'' about it are approximately the same who wants Ubi to go to hell...

----

As you wish guys!

Personally, I don't expect the experience of being always connected as a terrifying one.

Anyway, I think you guys are worrying way tooooo much...

This is my opinion and I respect yours (but only disagree), no need to quote and continue the drama.

Peace

If they remove the DRM then I might give it another look. There are a couple of other things I saw in the previews that didn't quite float my boat but maybe the modders will take care of that.
After the Sony rootkit fiasco I never bought another Sony product, that was my personal 'line in the sand',which I guess we all have.
So no matter who's doing the pushing be it government, some corporation,a games publisher or whoever, there comes a point when your 'line in the sand' is reached and all you can do is push back anyway you can.
Freeeeeedom :/\\x:

I'd like to, even with the DRM, but my shaky internet connection would make it a waste of $50. Which is a shame, because I've been playing since SH1.

Wolfehunter 02-28-10 03:30 PM

I'm not buying SHV. I don't like what ubi has done to it. And don't assume I don't like it because of the DRM.. that only part of my beef with SHV

TheDarkWraith 02-28-10 03:36 PM

not buying it either. One has to take a stand against oppressing forms of DRM. Buying the game sends the message to everyone that you a) agree with this form of oppression and b) you are a mindless follower that is afraid to stand up and speak out against oppression. That is my opinion of course.
But I will say that I'm looking forward to possibly bringing some of the SH5 effects to SH3 if I can. I just need someone to give me some files to look at.

Dowly 02-28-10 04:55 PM

Nope, wont buy it. From the videos and feedback from those who have the game, it's another beta version they put out, which wouldn't be THAT bad, but the game seems to have taken a tight turn towards being more mainstream. Meh.

Interesting how 30% of voters say they're getting it ASAP as opposed to the voting on "Will DRM affect your purchasing decision".

I expect Ubi relies on the fact that most people will carry on about 'principles' yet fail to follow them when tested against a perceived, short-term gain.

jwilliams 02-28-10 06:10 PM

I have to admit... i've had moments of weekness about getting SH5..... but im not gonna cave.... atleast until i read Neal's review. (hope Neal gets to review this soon, i might have another moment of weekness). lol:oops:

I want an improved SH3 with 1st person camera view's. But i dont think SH5 is this. :wah:

I want SH3 with SH4's graphics and crew management, and SH5's harbors, and SH3 Commander's adaptability.

But we haven't seen how modable SH5 is yet, so there is still a lot of hope.

Although i voted in some polls, i do not give too much on the statistical value in terms of being representative, not on the internet, in a public forum.

Jap, with all those modders who´re not willing to buy it...until DRM is removed...maybe in one or two years
