Nice to see that the cables on the boats are not all jagged.

I could be wrong and there might be in the release version. But if would be so lame if it was out only our own u-boat again. I mean community mods have shown that it wasnt that difficult at all to put them in , and maybe thats not why there in in the final version. Who knows?

As the description to that picture says:

"The harbours were kept very simple. There are no people or vehicles."

And as sayed at Picture 14:

"Starting from U-Boat pen. Unfortunately there is no one saying goodbye."

So it seems there will be no People on the docks and no music orchestra.

Or did I completely misunderstand that?

Say what? If that's true, that's something we haven't seen before. I think that sounds very interesting. Does that mean the unrealistic instant ID ship command has been replaced with a 'describe it' kinda sorta dialog? And what does that tell us about how the UI operates under the hood ? :hmmm:

I was not aware that they had laser sights back in WWII... :hmmm:

Would be really nice (as optional setting of course), that would add a lot to the immersion, as the captain is not the only man onboard.
I only hope the whole solution depends on our recognition, i.e. if we miss one mast (and get wrong type of ship as a result) --> we miss :hmmm:

The game engine is still the same one from SH3 and SH4. SH4 had people walking all over the ships, they had two basic sets of animations - calm, and panic. But they would almost always stay on the ship and go down with it. So look at is as a feature that hasn't been improved. ;)

I think I understand what this is. It's a series of filters for the ship recognition manual that are activated via dialog. That's pretty damn slick, IMO

In most of the pictures from there, especially at full res, I don't know the level of details they ran the preview copy on, but the water is often pretty wrong, very plastic looking, shiny as hell!
Bumps and sparkles are way off the scale and makes the boats looks like they're some 1:200 rc toys :o

Other than that, it's good looking, and most importantly, held lots of potential, modding wise

Looks sweet, though...

No wound badge slot on shot #26...so I suspect that nothing's changed in that regards; the Kaleun is still invincible!

If one of my crew said that to me, right at the beginning of the war*, they'd be booted right off my boat!

*Remembering that at the time the Germans were told by Hitler that Poland provoked the "defensive" action through 30-odd Polish instigated border incidents.

I actually like the water in most of the shots, but I do see your point in a few shots, like the one here. Microsoft made the same mistake with FSX, which was the first flight sim with moving water. The waves were so huge it felt like you were flying a toy airplane.

I know I've been down on the game because of the merchant selection, but I must say that their Hog Islander and Liberty Ship look much better. This will be the first SH game with a realistic looking Liberty (the ones in II, III, and IV were awful).

I wonder what sort of tools will ship with it, and how easy it will be to add new merchants.

That's a good point, JScones. In fact making statements like that would actually have been dangerous - I think one Kaleun (forget the name & his boat #) was shot during the war for making "defeatist" remarks. I think this is a case of the game manufacturers projecting modern perceptions of Nazism onto Germans of the wartime era. By and large, I bet most Germans, even if they were not party members, at least wanted to win the war.

And the goatee seems odd. From pictures I remember they either had a full beard or were clean shaven. Am I wrong here?
