i have to say the sh5 winter screenshots look fantastic but if i remember rightly didn't sh4 look good in the screenshots but poor when it was running - thats what i'm concerned about. Also the lack of interaction and feedback from the crew in sh4 - very poor and a step backwards from sh3. true if they start with the old engine and fix it, there's less to test and 6 months isn't very long. also the lack of feedback from the subsim meet could mean either there wasn't anything to shout about or they aren't allowed to. unless i missed the news of course...

Something for everybody. That is the best way. As far as SH3 and SH4 I think that everyone has their preferences and tastes. SH4 took a lot of massaging and prodding but it now delivers the goods not only in PTO but ATO, is it perfect, hell no, none of these products ever are. There will always be critics but remember for every critic there are hundreds of users that are out merrily enjoying their patrols.

As for SH5, looking forward to it as another chapter in this great genre opens and it will be awesome from all that we have seen and heard already.

I quite second that... And I can't remember having heard so much after the subsim meeting (why invite people from a public forum to see something, if it's to forbid them to speak on the forum? :hmmm:)

Aye, it'll probably be SHIV with even more bloated graphics and a crapload of new bugs. Back to the friggin' Pacman then :arrgh!:

I actually believe that SHV is a new engine with new code, and I doubt that it will come out with all the bugs as in SHIV, they make that quite clear in a number of posts.:yeah: TBH the only thing that worries me is the cook constantly asking me to taste the soup every time I pass his way, can you imagine after a long cruise having that ladel thrust at you a hundred times you'd want to thrust it back as a suppository!!:x:yep:
Actually the other worry is that it steers away from a simulation to an arcade game, but I think this unlikely.:hmmm:

Nah, I was just BSing up there, and seriously speaking I too think it'll be better than it's predecessors. And as regards the FPS angle, well, IMHO it can actually make SH5 even more realistic if the simulation aspects of the game are not otherwise watered down.

In fact the only real worry I have concerning SH5 is whether this P.O.S. ageing computer of mine can run it, because for various reasons I'm still stuck with it for the time being :nope: But that's my problem and mine only...

But then the junker runs SH4 at medium settings without any hiccups at all now, although it indeed was a s**tstorm of a job to get it there... but here we are nevertheless, so maybe I've still got hope?

So yah, time for some good, tough and hair-raising Atlantic action again methinks :arrgh!: Although I wouldn't definitely say no to a fleetboat add-on / mod either!
