No, I mean the other meaning of "messing", not from "ruining it", but more like "working with" or "looking into".

Like what I say when someone ask "will you fix this?" and I say "yeah, I'm messing up with scene.dat to try finding the solution".

I don't know it there's a better expression for that. Here in Brazil we speak something like that, and I translated the pure meaning of the word, so it might sound wrong. What would be the right expression?

"messing with" or "messing around with". "messing up" usually means "damaging"
