I take it the planes listed in 5.0 were redundant with 6.0 then?

The only real changes in 7.0 are.... the airfield placement, it now uses RSRD airbase positions and names, but the planes and types of airfields are all ASW. The other change, is I compressed the Library from 7 to 4 files and added 1 bomb type (100kg). (and there are new radar sets for American Aircraft in there, but they are not set or used yet)

Cheers mate, if it's not asking too much I'd really like 7.0 for 1.4

Yes, Dr Beast. The planes that are not in the second folder are because they are 'almost' redundant. They will still be present in the scripted missions that Lurker has made them for, but you will not see them in the campaign. The exception are the carrier based aircraft, Val , Kate and Zero. They will still be on carrier decks, but now have range restrictions. If you look in the folder (for Kate Zero Val), you will notice they have .cfg files. This is the file that controls range, speed. If for example, I used the same planes as RSRD, I would have to rely on the weapons carried by those planes. And that is a little to restrictive for what was planned for them.... thus the ASW clones. The clones are more for compatability than anything. Also, when the project was first started, it was discovered, that a plane with multiple 'loadout' configurations is spawned at an airfield, there was no way to tell them what 'loadout' to use. Often this resulted in them strafing you with bullets, but nothing else. Now we have 'forced their hand' so to speak by giving the ASW versions only one set of weapons :yep:

Ok, I will make a RSRD+ for 1.4 and also a standard 1.4. ETA as soon as I can. Just spending as much time as possible atm on building the u-boat air layer. I have not forgotted anyone :D

Take your time, mate, I'm a patient man (plus, I'm still waiting for them new computer parts!)
'nother quick question: will the planes strafe you with their guns if they run out of bombs? I think lurker did something to that effect by adding "dummy bomb" loadouts as well as normal ordinance.

AkbarGulag 03-10-08 09:56 AM

Thats a good question. Chances are they pack up and go home. I do not see that as a major concern, considering an aircraft can straffe you all day and not really do anything. Also, you DO NOT want to take a hit from ASW aircraft when they do have bombs. I got careless off the coast of Japan in a quick blast around the other night, an H6K4 ate me for lunch. I was cheeky and tried diving my sugar boat at 4,000 metres from contact :dead:

Considering I never 'play' this game anymore, it gave me a healthy respect for the changes in ASW

DrBeast 03-10-08 10:22 AM

When I playtest new weapon loadouts and/or sensor capabilities, I usually run a VERY beefed-up config of the sub I'll be using (with x100 Hit Points and Armor Level in key compartments/structures such as engines etc) - I call it a Mithril Sub ;). Helps when I'm using multiple ships/aircraft as opponents.
Anyway, if your crew is ever in need of a Doc, give me a holler. I'm a veterinarian, the perfect guy to heal up a bunch of seadogs! :D

Is the latest ASW MOD for RSRDC 1.5 still "ASW_7.0_RSRD_355_1.5" or is there a Version 8.0 for RSRD_355_1.5"???

AkbarGulag 03-23-08 04:50 AM

There is an 8.0 for RSRD.

http://files.filefront.com/ASW+80+RS.../fileinfo.html

It wasn't on my main page, because I was considering dis-continuing RSRD.

A version 9.0 will be released in the future with a lot more content. And be made for only Standard 1.4 and 1.5 patch and TM 1.5 at this point.

Thanks for the quick response and link. Sorry to hear that you'll be discontinuing ASW support for RSRDC. You've done great work improviong the air aspects of SH4.

NoooOoOOOOoooOOOOooOOO!!!

AkbarGulag 03-24-08 08:19 AM

lol, do not despair. When 9.0 is released, it should finaly be what was imagined when this project first started. A lot of work has gone on despite the lack of versions lately. This time, I even got a perfect tester.... and that also means I actually get to play SH4 for a change.

From the testing done so far, air contacts are about 2 per day in areas where planes should be common. (if you count them returning down the same heading, I guess it makes 4 contacts, but only 2 aircraft). They may be more (if your unlucky) and sometimes less. But the user has the ability to adjust this to suit as per instructions in the first post of this thread.

The new version will also have a .mis file created entirely from scratch and be historically accurate.

DrBeast 03-24-08 08:32 AM

I'll be patiently awaiting this new version, then

That's great news! So does this mean there still might be a version down the road for those of us running TMO 1.5 and RSRDC Phase III Plus?

There will certainly be one for TMO 1.5. I am not sure on one being available for TMO+RSRD. Since my recent work is taking time to be released, this project is going to recieve renewed effort. Once a couple of versions are released for the main MOD's, I will look at making some for combo's.

AlmightyTallest 03-25-08 09:10 AM

No problem Akbar, take your time on this if needed. I just appreciate you even considering taking the time to make special versions of your mod for those of us with multiple combined mods.

Also, did you notice that Ducimus is considering a TMO patch that combines RSRDC already included?

M. Sarsfield 03-25-08 10:17 AM

I installed this last night with v1.5 and RSRDC. Definitely an improvement. Do you know if it's compatible with RFB?

It may be available as a component in the next RFB release.
